Isn't it?

I can't get my head around this. Why is this ok?

I'm not a sun reader so I guess I'd kind of forgotten about it. Then I remembered. Why ON EARTH does this still happen in 2010?

BIZZARRO.

Have you seen how appallingly the girls are paid too? Approx £180 per shoot and Page 3 girls average wage is £12k - well below average earnings. Shock

This just isn't any ordinary exploitation.......................this is really really good exploitation.

Desiderata · 23/11/2010 16:37

Good grief! What has an inoffensive pair of tits got to do with the BNP and 'darkies'?

Aitch Grin How are you, darling?

i am being torn limb from limb on a thread populated by loons. twas ever thus. Grin where HAVE you been?

and you know of course that i disagree profoundly with your 'just a pair of tits' line, don't you? but i am too tired out by the peculiars to destroy you. Wink i will merely watch from the sidelines. Grin

'Dear Clare' is a book that gathers together the letters Clare Short was sent by women from around the UK when she tried to get page 3 banned. Interesting reading for anyone who feels alone. Also covers the behaviour she had to face from the press and male MPs when trying to get the ban through.

AitchTwoOh · 23/11/2010 20:24

i remember that, she was absolutely DEMONISED. it was a real eye opener.

AliceWorld · 23/11/2010 20:25

Yep those parts of that book were truly shocking. Sad thing is I have also read shocking things about when women went into parliament in '97.

AitchTwoOh · 23/11/2010 20:26

lol, no, not the book. i am old enough to remember the actual demonisation. Wink

nameymcnamechange · 23/11/2010 20:27

Ooooh Aliceworld, I am absolutely delighted that someone else knows that book.

(I wonder if I know you in rl?)

AliceWorld · 23/11/2010 20:37

I'm almost old enough Grin

Well I am old enough but wasn't aware. Well I suppose not old enough as I wasn't aware as I was too young. Phew, glad we got that sorted Wink

Namey - I'd be surprised if you'd know me from that book...

nameymcnamechange · 23/11/2010 20:41

Just that its not a very well known book Alice and I was ever so slightly involved in its publication and was there at the publication party. But I was a fully grown adult of 26 or 27 at the time and you were obviously only just old enough to remember it Grin so, no, I doubt our paths have crossed. But am so PLEASED that someone else knows the book.

AliceWorld · 23/11/2010 20:43

Aw disappointing.

Well you may be pleased to hear that I was given it by someone else, and it has been passed on to yet someone else to read Grin

nameymcnamechange · 23/11/2010 20:59

Very pleased Smile.

ISNT · 23/11/2010 21:16

Yes it is weird and I hate it.

Never forget when I was about 14 and on the tube and the man sitting next to me was sitting there with his paper open on page 3, sort of holding it pointed a bit at me. Stare at tits, stare at me, stare at tits, stare at me. Push leg against mine and shake newspaper so I look at tits and go bright red. Etc and so on.

Hate it. Have always felt really uncomfortable in that type of situation and don't understand when others don't TBH, or don't understand why anyone would be uncomfortable.

madwomanintheattic · 24/11/2010 05:28

mmmmm. if i was on the tube with a couple of blokes ogling the sun next to me, and i jumped up and ripped off my shirt and got my tits out (for the lads - sigh), would i be arrested?

i mean, if i'm at a rugby match , they'd cover me up and rush me off and give me a caution, right? so i figure i'd get at least a caution for jiggling them about in the rush hour?

but it's ok to sit and flash a paper version?

hmmmmmmmm.

begonyabampot · 24/11/2010 09:27

might be snobby but if i saw a guy on the bus or whatever reading Th Sun and especially page 3 it would be such a turn off and I can't help being a bit judgmental.

madwomanintheattic · 25/11/2010 04:21

a turn off? i wasn't suggesting i'd get my tits out and be rampant with desire lol, just struck me that the legality issue is a bit weird. it's ok to flash a picture of tits on the tube, but not actual tits.

Sakura · 25/11/2010 06:48

madwomanintheattic, take a look at this hilarious picture

ISNT · 25/11/2010 09:58

I thought begony was saying that normally she gets turned on by random men on buses? As long as they're not reading the sun...

Each to their own and all that Grin

madwomanintheattic · 25/11/2010 14:38
Grin
sethstarkaddersmum · 25/11/2010 14:47

don't you have attractive men on your buses then ISNT? Wink

begonyabampot · 25/11/2010 16:59

what am i talking about, I don't even use the buses - maybe it's my secret fantasy - a wee bit o rough!
