me again and banging on about my show again honestly this is providing a welath of information and sometimes it's more beneficial to excavate from pretentious non-theatre types.

We're creating soundtracks for the half hour in the bar and space before the show starts and want misongynistic songs which cross the last 60-70years. There's obviously tons in modern R&B but we've found some Andy Williams, Cliff Richard, Alice Cooper etc. We want male only voices for this.

During the interval we need 5 songs to play which are sung by women, referring to oppression of women (eg Kate Bush - A Woman's Work)

The end is the really tough one. We don't want power ballads or anything by Whitney Houston or the spice girls but definately uplifting songs about female empowerment

prob a hell of a lot of them to be honest! We need 30-40 mins for the opening (male-sung songs of misogyny), 15-20mins for interval (we think female songs of oppression) then quite a lot for the end of the play (female songs of empowerment)...the latter is difficult because I want quite subtle songs rather than Girl Power vein, as the ending is incredibly sad...she leaves her children and everything she's ever known - what she's doing is terrifying but incredibly brave. And her husband doesn't knowingly (intentionally) oppress her, it's as much society so I don't want it to seem anti-men in any way. BUT playlist so far (needs cutting down but more additions welcome):

I'm not your toy - la roux
lay, lady, lay AND just like a woman - bob dylan
senza una donna - paul young
back off bitch AND you could be mine - guns'n'roses
wives and lovers AND music to watch girls by - andy williams

living doll - cliff richard
it's different for girls - joe jackson
girls - beastie boys
your woman - white town
pretty woman - roy orbison
it's a man's world - james brown
that's not my name - ting tings
human nature - madonna
all women are bad - vince ray
room for the life AND a woman's work - Kate Bush
99 problems - Jay Z
woman's been after you ever since - blind alfred reed
big time sensuality - bjork
thin line between love and hate - pretenders
i am woman - helen reddy
not a pretty girl - ani difranco
when i was a boy - dar williams
bang bang AND these boots are made for walking - nancy sinatra

AH! also, we need a song/piece of music for the Tarantella, a dance Nora performs at a party in a whore outfit her husband has chosen as her fancy dress. The traditional is an italian dance ('fishergirls'), I'm opening the 2nd act after the interval with all 5 girls doing the dance onstage, so needs to build to a massive crescendo, frenzy onstage, uncontrollable. I'm a bit wary of using 'pop' music or anything with lyrics in because then it has to be exactly right (not about DV relationships, but maybe about pornification/objectification of women)...would prefer it to be classical I think because that will heighten the theatricality, but any suggestions welcome!

Will pop a massive thankyou to you all in the programme

Oh, I forgot a classic piece of nasty misogynistic rap: by Snoop Dogg, a delightful paean to how gang banging is okay because 'bitches ain't shit'.

Might be a bit much though!

Oh another one about domestic violence - Thank You by Jamelia

Maybe for the Tarantella, have a listen to Charlie Mingus' The Black Saint and the Sinner Lady - Huge frenzied crescendos in that album - though it could be a job editing as shortest track is around 6.5 minutes. It has an extremely sleazy jazz sound though, if that could suit?

There's The Feeling Begins - another peter gabriel score for film track, which may be a little over-used but is quite effective.
