Grrrr Tesco selling padded bras for children

OK, I thought, perhaps naively, that after the big fuss about Asda etc selling these last year they had all been withdrawn. However I was in Tesco this morning and they had a huge display of padded bras marked "teen range" sized from 28AA. These were brightly coloured plunge type bras and although marked as teen range were next to the 8-9 year old clothes. I've sent an e-mail to tesco but am cross with myself now that I didn't ask to see the manager and say something there and then.

Will be interesting to see what response I get from them.

Ridiculous. I was looking for plain vests for my dc the other day and they didn't have them. I saw those ridiculous things and tutted.

teenagers wear bras

Rachyrachrach · 23/10/2010 15:07

Teenagers do wear bras, I wore one myself from when I was about 11. But it wasn't a padded plunge bra! And the sizes they are selling are more likely to fit a 9 year old than a 14 year old anyway.

More 9 year olds don't wear bras than do.

Rachyrachrach · 23/10/2010 15:15

I think that's my point. If they are genuinely targeted at teenagers (and let's ignore how inappropriate the plunge and the padding are for a moment) then why are they placed next to the clothing for 8,9,10 year old girls rather than in the underwear section? Seems quite obvious that little girls are the group tesco are marketing this product to.

Don't buy them then. If Tesco don't sell any they will stop stocking them. Can't parents say no any more?

earwicga · 23/10/2010 16:30

I'm more pissed off that the halloween Monsters & Aliens film that Tesco is selling is only 26 minutes long. Proper scam.

Get thyself on the teen bra feedback thread at the top here

I'm not likely to be buying them-I have boys for a start! It's the sexualisation of young girls I object to.

I only have sons but my friend says when her girl first developed her breasts were v tender and she (the daughter) preferred a padded ( not plunge!) bra in case they were knocked at playtime / pe ( year 6 primary).
