Feminism in South Yorkshire

Hi

I am new to this so I hope I have done it right.

Are there any women anywhere in South Yorkshire, I am in Doncaster, who are interested in feminism. I am a member of OBJECT an wondered if there were any other women who feel like me in my area. I am so lonely! I refuse to believe I am the only woman like me in Doncaster. I went to the MWR march in Manchester last week (alone) and it was absolutely fantastic. Please post a message if you are interested.

Hey MrsClown.

Do you know the local groups listing on UK Feminista, here.

The nearest one to you is probably Sheffield Feminist Network here

Things are getting moving in York too, so far just one Facebook here

You could also ask any of those nearby groups if anyone in them lives in Doncaster - you might find Donc people in the Sheffield one for instance.

A good thing to do might be to join the UK Feminista forum and post there that you are looking for Doncaster feminists - other groups have started by people finding each other that way.

So you made it to MWR! I wanted to but was ill. It sounds fab. Please tell us more about it.

Hi

Thanks for your reply. Will let you know how it goes.

The MWR march was fantastic. There were about 300 women chanting, playing instruments, singing etc. People who were watching stopped and many of them clapped and cheered. I noticed an elderly lady who stood on the street and just clapped for us. I was really moved. People passing on buses were waving etc. The Hari Krishnas supplied food at the end. It was very empowering. I am also going to the feminist weekend in London on Saturday and cant wait. I will also be at the MWR rise march in London next March. That will be a lot bigger than Manchester. Anyone interested, please go to the web site there are coaches from all over the place going down there. Also, if anyone is sick of this sexualised society go on the website of OBJECT, I am a member and it is very empowering.

Will keep you all posted.

Wahey! Brilliant, well done MrsClown!
Hopefully at some point one day there will be a big Yorkshire feminists get-together.

What another lovely example of how discussion on Mumsnet's Feminism section can be carried forward in a positive way into real life. Smile
