If you haven't read Delusions of Gender yet, do so now!

Put to one side your Kate Millets, Germaine Greers, Nina Powers, yea even your Kat Banyards. The book everyone needs to read IMMEDIATELY is Delusions of Gender by Cordelia Fine.

you will laugh, you will cry, you will rage, but mostly laugh, especially at the bit with the dead salmon.

basically you have to read it as it means nobody can ever pull any 'oh but men and women are different, they have different brains' stuff on you ever again.

It is fab isn't it...have just started so haven't got to the dead salmon bit yet (no spoilers please!)....
It just confirms what I have so often felt....(as a female in IT who felt she didn't belong...)

scurryfunge · 30/09/2010 14:31

Just ordered it, thank you.

sethstarkaddersmum · 30/09/2010 14:48

enjoy it!
I am itching for someone to start saying some different brain nonsense now so I can argue with them.

am loving the negative feedback on amazon. "wishful thinking" uses the spurious logic to attack the book as is demolished by Fine!

Read the intro Smile

But don't women like pink cos it's the colour of berries? (There you go SSM)

oh yes, LOL @ that review. what a thicko. Has he (I'm assuming) actually read the book?
I like this bit:
"the problem is that 'pure' scientists (of which the author does not seem to be an example) have found various 'stumbling blocks' which have to be overcome if you wish to dismiss brain differences between male & female"
no, they haven't....

Her mother is Anne Fine (former Children's Laureat, author of Goggle Eyes, Flour Babies, Mrs Doubtfire etc).

I remember reading an article by her mother about giving her feminism-primed daughters Enid Blyton to read and them sitting in the back of the car going exasperatedly, 'Course it's always the girls that get to do the cooking! Course it's the boys that go off and catch the baddie. Course it is!'

I suppose you can take it with you to read while you sit outside the library door!

btw how are you getting on with Beauty and Misogyny? I'm nearly through it and would love to know what someone else thinks.
