A TKmax in my local town is having a lot of work going on outside , so big fences etc outside . With two great big signs on said fence saying

Men at Work

Never stopped women shopping

I am really grumpy about the whole thing and I am going to e mail said company .

I am not being over sensitive about this am I ?

Whoops! I was only thinking what you could change 'at work' to without too much scribbling out - it wasn't a deep or serious comment, perhaps should have thought about it a bit more in context of the thread .

Footlong - not sure what you mean by 'given the poster' - i'm quite inoffensive and don't often post on any subject too serious. And i don't think i've come across you on any threads...

travellingwilbury · 30/09/2010 08:16

I don't think most people thought you were being serious Penny .

I am still grumpy about it this morning so def going to try and speak to TKMax about it today .

Wish me luck .

Good Luck tw - i definitely think you should complain. As i've mentioned before on here i complained in Millets very loudly upon finding that the girls shorts had a pink flower keyring free with them and the boys had a whistle and compass keyring (and i have 2 boys).

They took me quite seriously (or so it appeared at the time) - hopefully they've done something about it now.

Kick Arse!

It's sexist: complain.

travellingwilbury · 30/09/2010 11:14

How does this look ?
I have found the e mail address of their head of public relations and was going to send the following . Any advice gratefully recieved as this is the first time I think I have ever complained about something like this .

I was going to visit your store in Horsham West Sussex yesterday but had a big change of heart after seeing the following sign .

Men at Work

Never stopped women shopping

This has been proffesionally printed and has your company name on so I am presuming this has been approved by not only the store manager but also your company head office .

I would be interested to hear your views on how this is acceptable in the 21st century .

Apart from the obvious , women have actually been heard of working on building sites and of course I assume you know that men are not banned from spending money in store , this has got to be one of the most patronising things I have ever seen .

Even my 6 yr old son thought it was "silly , does that mean boys aren't allowed to go shopping?" .

I hope to hear back from you very soon

Just blank out the Wo in women with a big marker.

YummyorSlummy · 30/09/2010 11:39

Oh fgs! It was meant to be a joke! Women joke about men and vice versa, it's just a bit of banter. Pick your battles, Otherwise prepare to be offended in some way every day- and I just couldn't be bothered with that tbh!

AliceWorld · 30/09/2010 11:42

Looks good to me TW Smile

YoS why bother to post then? If you can't be bothered, then why go to the effort of saying so. Just don't bother.

JaneS · 30/09/2010 11:46

No, Penny, I didn't think you were being serious either! It's just a bit strange on a thread where we're being pissed off about a sexist sign.

travelling - you might ask them how they think their sign relates to the law on discrimination at work. Surely it's discrimination to put that sign up when some of the workers on the site/in TK Maxx are presumably women and offended by it?

JaneS · 30/09/2010 11:48

Btw, 'professionally', not 'proffessionally' (sorry if that's just a typo!).

travellingwilbury · 30/09/2010 11:51

Thanks , and littlered , no not a typo just crap spelling .

Yummy , I have said earlier that I am not normally actually easily offended but this just really pissed me off yesterday and I wanted opinions on it .

You have given yours and thats fine too .

How about:

Men Drinking Tea
Never stopped Anyone shopping
???

Kitta · 19/10/2010 20:22

This is they type of thing that kills me And I don?t think it?s been petty or hold the view that there are bigger battles, I?m very much of the ?broken windows? theory.
As you pointed out this is not the work of one person there are so many people who thought that this was acceptable.

BosomForAPillow · 19/10/2010 22:41

There is a shop near me with a big notice outside saying

"Your Husband called. He said Buy anything you like in this shop."

Also saw a sign outside a pub at the weekend saying "Man creche now open. Ladies leave your man here so you can go shopping in peace."
