So... did anyone hear the woman's hour discussion about men against pornography?

WH redeemed itself for me this morning after yesterday's preposterous catcall discussion. There was a discussion between one of those "yes I know there are abuses but some women like it and sometimes men get whipped in porn" people and a very well-informed man who pointed out that most mainstream porn is mysogynist, that 90% of it (the mainstream stuff) features violence and that 95% of that violence in mainstream porn is directed against women.

It gave me hope. There are some male voices out there speaking out against it.

I heard bits of it, I was really impressed with the guests.

And he was young too. I liked his approach. It was so refreshing and non judgemental.

I thought the man was brilliant and really made me realise what effect easily accessed internet porn could have on the next generation.

I was also pleased the woman sounded preposterous defending pornography; does she really not realise that the dominatrix figure is still about pleasing men? Even if she's the one doing the whipping, he's the one who wants it that way. She really sounded ridiculous saying she agreed exploitation and objectification is wrong but supports pornography where no one is exploited/objectified; we ALL support that but it doesn't really exist especially not in commercial porn.

Impressed they covered this issue even though Jenni Murray sounded a bit uncomfortable!

She was a pathetic advocate for her side of the argument IMO.

She talked about having a "kneejerk reaction" banning porn and driving it underground.

Not once had he mentioned banning it and it was extremely obvious that his approach was as far from kneejerk as you can get - he sounded like he'd swallowed several research papers on porn and done revision on the mumsnet porn threads.

Interesting how they chose a woman to argue against him, wasn't it? Rather than a porn using man? Is this because the porn side always tries to get women to do their arguing for them (as with rape advocates) or is it because they couldn't get a man to argue with another man about it, given that he couldn't demolish his arguments by accusing him of being a hairy, bitter lesbian?

Oh bollocks my soundcard is still playing up and I actually really wanted to listen to that.
And I can't stick up for the pro-porn woman properly without having heard the programme.

I heard this on Weekend Women's Hour and I'm bumping because I thought it was so good to hear a young, thoughtful man talking about the porn industry.

Everyone expects bitter old crones like me to not like porn so I think highlighting that men can be anti is brilliant.

The woman was a poor advocate, made me cringe rather than shout at the radio!

SOundcard sorted, so I listened to the first few minutes. The bloke's the usual slimy sexist needledick without a clue.
(Anti-porn men, ie ones who campaign against porn, are always awful. If they're not profoundly creepy they are so condescending you want to kick them in the cock. Men like this still don't percieve women as human beings with any right to autonomy)
