Have you seen this? Plans to keep violent partners away from the family home temporarily, in order to give the victim the chance to escape are to be scrapped

ie, they have no responsibility to behave in a humane manner to us because we aren't real. We are pretending to be people, and sometimes they humour us and pretend we are people too - but we aren't really real people - we're just females.

I'm pleased to find this thread. I was going to start one about this a few days ago, then found the thread in the News section and felt really depressed by the discussion there so didn't bother joining in.

Well done. I should come and join you. I'm afraid I'm a bit chicken about joining in some of the livelier MN threads. I'm not always very good at arguing my corner when discussions take a turn for the bizarre (like everyone tying themselves in knots about an allegedly abusive man's right to stay in his home ).
Good for you though. I'll have a peek and see if there's anything I can say to help...

I lose patience with those threads sometimes too - or shy away from them altogether on the not at all rare occasions that I know nothing (e.g. transsexual threads).

Who would vote tory /lib dem in the next election then? ...why dont they just go the whole hog and take the vote back of us women , so we can be pushed back into our "proper places" .

I said ages ago in a pre-election thread, that the behaviour of the tories is totally predictable. They will give breaks to people who vote tory, so rich people and those who hope to be rich one day (with whatever level of likelihood) - businesses, banks, small-time entrepreneurs, polluters, tax-evaders.

They do not give a single toss about anyone vulnerable in any sense - parents, disabled people and their carers, people who need the NHS a lot, even their own staff (public servants like teachers).

It's not an illusion, they really don't care. They want people to feel the consequences of their actions, which to them means if you haven't gone out and made millions, and have selfishly e.g. had a baby, it's your tough if you can't afford to go back to work.

I don't think anyone was condoning domestic violence at all on the other thread.

It's just that there are so many flaws in the proposal that I have to agree that the government was right to scrap it.

Pointing out the flaws in a proposal that is supposed to curb domestic violence is NOT the same as condoning it.

Am I being thick? Where does it say on here about condoning domestic violence?

Well the government may or may not care- I suspect that they don't, sadly- but that's not why they scrapped the scheme.
They scrapped it because of problems with legislation.

But they said it was to save money, marantha. I didn't just make that up out of the air, it was in the article I linked to at the top. What problems?

well that's one remark, but can you provide any details? They give details about financial cuts etc, but nothing about problems with the legislation. Possibly an excuse?
