Anyone know the title/author of a book about a woman undercover in low paid jobs in US?

I read this book c2002 - think it was fairly recently published. I lent it to someone and never got it back. I would really like to reread it but cannot remember the details and have tried a search on ABEbooks but no luck.

You mean "Nickeled and Dimed" I think, by Barbra Ehrenreich - maybe?

scratching my head too. was good. She did follow up about trying to get an executive job which wasn't quite as good.

think her name is Barbara Ehrenreich (sp) and she did another one about 'middle' America and job insecurity - Bait and Switch. Has new one out about 'cult' of positive thinking too

The Polly Toynbee one looks interesting, not sure how I missed that when it came out.

I have two copies of the Toynbee book, if you want one! I bought it on sale in the last days of Borders forgetting I already had it.
