Coming off the tube this morning, going up the escalator, I saw an advert on the wall. I'm not sure what it was for, but it showed a long pair of sleek female legs and that was it.

Someone had improved the ad immeasurably by adhering a fairly large bright red sticker to the poster with the words "sexist shit" in capitals on it

I left the tube like this [grin

Whats wrong with a picture off female legs?

They might have been advertising Veet or tights or something? I mean there are real female legs all over the underground to look at.

Pick your battles I say.

think it was for waxing or something.

trying to remember whether it was victoria Green park or Bond street.

Seriously, I'd like to know where to get something like this. Do Object do them, I wonder? Of course, if The Authorities are reading this, I only intend to use them for decorative purposes in my own home.

roffle at getting an ASBO.
It's true mothers have got too much to lose to do anything substantial.
Wait until my kids are independant. It'll be Asbos R us.

wish I had some: I am sick to death of having to see this sort of crap every time I dare to venture out in public.

good article sherby. I think the ASA are shit for ignoring complaints about blatant sexism when of course they wouldn't ignore similar complaints in regards to racism.

ISNT · 15/07/2010 13:59

Different office today, saw a load of other posters this morning that had been vandalised with home made stickers/marker pens.

There has obviously been an upsurge in this sort of activity in London in the year and a bit since I went on mat leave!

sherby thanks for linking that article. Was a bit that the regulations are being revised to allow advertisers to use "adult material" in some instances - what on earth?

It also says the rules about advertising to children are being changed but didn't say how.

Thinking about the ASA = did anyone else see the load of bollocks response to the complaints about that "lads trick girl into having sex" ad? The response contradicted itself and was a load of rubbish basically.

they are always shit about these things.

I don't have much to lose, no home and no kids anyway, even the dogs are shared .

I would think as long as they were the kind of stickers that could be peeled off and reused it wouldn't count as criminal damage.

I will certainly "not" be doing this.

But just say I were, does anyone know a good repeelable sticker supplier?

sixpercenttruejedi · 17/07/2010 12:10

There's a blog by Charliegrrl that campaigned by stickering sexism in public spaces. They used to provide sticker and leaflet designs that could be downloaded and distributed. I agree with Elephants that as long it can be easily peeled off and leaves no mark, it doesn't count as criminal damage.Seem to recall being told that once. Or imagined it.

sixpercenttruejedi · 17/07/2010 12:19

Here it is. It doesn't seem active but the materials can still be downloaded

I like the idea of stickering, it's quite a 'friendly' way of protesting, visible while avoiding unnecessary conflict, and a way to protest instantly anywhere.

Blackduck · 18/07/2010 07:28

there is a facebook group 'somewhat strident but who cares' that is quite interesting...

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 19/07/2010 13:50

oh yes, isn't there.

hmmmmmm...

Lucifera · 19/07/2010 15:20

I thumped an offensive ad on the escalator once (when I was young, about a hundred years ago) and the Perspex broke!
