www.facebook.com/?ref=home#!/pages/RIP-RAOUL-MOAT-YOU-LEGEND-3/131022780267789?ref=ts

link to the page. I have reported as it contains hate language. some of the comments are vile and I restricted myself to the first page.

Talksport are running a campaign to get the page deleted. The more people who report, the quicker it will be removed.

(just posted this in news, but having reconsidered, it may belong here)

TSH - substitute 'racist' for 'sexist' and there's your incitement to hatred. I'm surprised you don't see it!

I have reported it. You do not have to 'like' the page to report it.

The comments on there from some men are incredibly disturbing.......

As I'm sure you already know, David Cameron has denounced the group and Facebook are adamant that it will stay up:

"Facebook issued a statement after Prime Minister David Cameron was urged by Conservative MP Chris Heaton-Harris to contact Facebook to ask them to take down the webpage of the RIP Raoul Moat group, which he said carried a "whole host of anti-police statements".

The Facebook statement said: "Raoul Moat has dominated... See more public debate over the last week and it is clear that there are lots of different and opposing opinions, both about Moat himself and about the investigation which surrounds him.

"These debates are being held in newspapers, online across the internet, between people in the pub, on the phone and at work. Facebook is a place where people can express their views and discuss things in an open way as they can and do in many other places, and as such we sometimes find people discussing topics others may find distasteful, however that is not a reason in itself to stop a debate from happening."

I suppose the interpretation of 'hate speech' is in the eye of the beholder.

weaselmoose · 15/07/2010 01:00

I set up an 'anti-Raoul Moat is a legend' facebook page here if any of you ladies want to join it.

Absolutely disgusting some of the talk going on there. I don't understand why this language is tolerated when it's 'just' sexist rather than racist. Sickening that facebook wont take it down.

Butterpie · 15/07/2010 09:47

I was just coming on to post the anti-moat page my DP made here but I will join yours as well weasel

Am I the only one who wants to go marching up to one of those 'shrines' of flowers outside his house and kick them to pieces?
Why are the locals allowing the flowers to pile up?

earwicga · 15/07/2010 12:11

It's being discussed on Radio 2 now. The MP that brought it up yesterday is talking about the T&C of Facebook.

Ripeberry - I would love to do that.

daftpunk · 15/07/2010 12:23

I think some of the comments are pretty awful, but agree with the female journo that the group shouldn't be banned.

earwicga · 15/07/2010 12:23

It was quite an interesting discussion and the MP said the biggest age demographic of FB users is 10-18 years of age.

It reminds me of a push a while ago when a lot of us were reporting abusive FB groups set up about 'killing hookers', rape 'jokes' and dv 'jokes'. We found the best thing to do was to contact the schools of the people who set up the groups and those who commented on them. Schools took it very seriously and several of them took this opportunity to begin an initiative using said pupils to work on peer education regarding rape and dv, which the pupils were happy to work on when they realised the enormity of the problem.

Oh have they.. I suppose it was inevitable

earwicga · 15/07/2010 18:06

The group was taken down by Siobhan O'Dowd, it's creator, and not by Facebook. And she has said she might put it back up again.

ilovemydogandMrObama · 15/07/2010 18:25

Right, so FB doesn't ban a thread celebrating a man who has shot his ex girlfriend, killed her boyfriend, but if there's a photo of a woman b/fing her baby, it gets deleted in seconds

earwicga
"its creator"
Not "it's creator"

earwicga · 16/07/2010 09:21

Thanks for the grammar lesson desanimaux.
