I'm so fed up with fibroids, had the mirena coil fitted in January but still passing huge clots, waiting on a hysterectomy, feel so drained 😞

I have a fibroid measuring 16cm by 12cm - I feel your pain.

Vgtasd · 16/06/2023 20:45

Aw no @Berlinlover mine is only 6cm by 6cm and I am struggling, sending love and support xx

Yup that's nasty! Is that a maternity pad too? I bulk bought them during my last nightmare period. No fibroids here but absurdly thick endometrium. I'm waiting on biopsy results and have a mirena in. Hoping against hope the next period isn't as bad. I've got tranexmic acid too. Have you tried that?

Thanks. Sending you love and support too ❤️

Have you had your iron levels checked? I needed a blood transfusion after passing clots for months.
Are you sure your Mirena is still in? Mine came out with a clot.

Moro93 · 16/06/2023 21:08

Is it fibroids that cause you to get clots like that or the coil?
I’ve been passing clots like this (or larger) for a few years and my GP won’t do anything, they keep telling me it’s normal and some people ‘just get clots’. I also get extreme pain before and during my periods and my cramps feel like contractions but I can’t get referred anywhere to get it investigated. I’m not on any birth control etc.

Vgtasd · 16/06/2023 21:26

Mirena coil has just come out, hopefully this will stem the bleeding

@Moro93 Its the fibroids that cause the clots, push for a gynae appointment honestly don't sufferxxx

Oh my god OP, you poor thing. We put up with so much. I hope you get your hysterectomy soon.

I've had a mirena in for heavy periods, I bled for 6 weeks after and only recently stopped. This doesn't fill me with hope.

fuckmyuteruslining · 16/06/2023 23:26

Contact your hospital and tell them the coil has come out. Might help them bump you up the list a bit.

Moro93 · 17/06/2023 02:10

@Vgtasd I’ve considered fibroids, ovarian cysts, endometriosis etc as possible causes.
Thank you, I’ll be pushing for a gynae referral once the GP opens next week.

I hope your bleeding calms down and you get things sorted out xxx

Readingisgoodforyou · 17/06/2023 05:10

That looks like you've actually passed a couple of fibroids.

itsgettingweird · 17/06/2023 05:34

I was about to post watch out for the clots pulling the coil out.

I had adenomyois and passed clots like that and bigger (about 20 a day) and I lost 2 coils through it.

Ask for ferritin to be checked. Mine was really low and caused all sorts of symptoms.

Glad you're waiting for a hysterectomy. I had mine removed last year (kept my ovaries) and it really has been life changing.

Whilst I was waiting I had northisterone daily to stop my periods - could you discuss this option with the GP?

SpuytenDuyvil · 17/06/2023 05:37

You poor thing. I went through that. My gynae didn't exactly believe how much I was bleeding so I put a measuring cup under my vagina and caught the blood, so I could tell him how much it was. And then I passed a clot the size of my palm. How do I know? I pulled it out of the loo and measured that, too. I had a myomectomy where they removed 2 fibroids. They did spare my uterus and I was still able to have DC. Eventually I did have a hysterectomy because the fibroids went crazy during pregnancy.

pilates · 17/06/2023 07:37

I had fibroids and adenomyosis - very low time in my life. I was told a hysterectomy is the only way to cure the problem which I had together with a blood transfusion. Got my life back.

Thereoughttobeclowns · 17/06/2023 09:22

I was passing clots far bigger than that and don’t have fibroids, but do have ‘fibrotic changes’, whatever that means. My clots were palm sized, plopping out of me whenever I stood up, making me anaemic and faint.

I also had the mirena in Jan, but it has sorted me out entirely and stopped all bleeding. It took a few months to settle though.

Hope you get it sorted OP.

Perry13579 · 23/06/2023 21:21

I also pass palm-sized clots - Tranexamic acid tends to reduce them to a size similar to yours, but I can only take it for four days at a time which isn't long enough. My periods go on for 11 or 12 days and I have a three week cycle (irregular) so feel lucky when I get five days off bleeding between periods. I'm so miserable - mine have got much worse since my Mirena was spontaneously expelled along with a clot. Have only managed to have sex twice so far this year because of them.
So no help, but solidarity with you. Push the GP for a proper gynae referral, that's what I want.

MoreCoffeeAndCake · 23/06/2023 21:27

Are clots like that due to fibroids? I have to admit I thought clots were kind of normal (I pass them a lot), are they not?

I'm sorry OP that you are in pain.
