Worried about post menopausal bleeding

I am 8 years post menopause and have been on HRT (oestrogel and progesterone) for 3 years. Four weeks ago I started having mild spotting (every day) and some pain and I have been put on the HRT bleeding pathway, so I am meant to have a vaginal ultrasound scan with 6 weeks. I haven’t had an appointment through yet.

Today the bleeding has got a bit worse and I have more pain. I am very worried. The doctor said that it is common to bleed on HRT, but I haven’t been reassured.
Does anyone have experience of bleeding like this and it hasn’t been something serious?

Please go back to your GP and push to be seen ASAP. Don't take no for an answer.

Surely you should be on the two week pathway for an ultrasound?

Unfortunately if you are on HRT and have no risk factors it is a 6 week ‘urgent appointment’. I am going to try and speak to a GP today. I work at the hospital and have been told that people who are on the 2 week pathway are not being seen until about 4 weeks. It is all a bit crap. I am also going to try and find out who schedules the appointments and see if I can get a cancellation.

I had bleeding, I was sent for a scan which was negative, hysteroscopy showed a small polyp ( I think that’s what it was) which was removed immediately. No further bleeding.

Thank you for sharing. My mind is racing to the worst case scenario, so it is good to hear something more positive.

That’s great news. It’s probably nothing but best to get it looked at.

Good luck, happened to me also. I had the camera thingy (technical term!!). Very quick and painless and I hate that sort of thing. All was fine. It can be a common thing to happen, but agree with everyone else that it needs to be taken seriously. Hope all is well

I can understand why you're worried, especially after 8 years without periods. Bleeding can happen with HRT, and it doesn't always mean something serious. There are several possible causes, including changes to the womb lining or harmless polyps.

Since the bleeding has become heavier and you're experiencing more pain, I'd contact your GP again rather than wait for the ultrasound appointment. They may be able to arrange an earlier assessment.

Try not to assume the worst, as many causes are treatable. It's important to get checked, though, especially when bleeding starts after menopause.
