I have to have a womb biopsy don't know if it will be a hysteroscopy or pipelle biopsy.
I had one last year and it was under General Anaesthetic. Been offered one in clinic instead. I am premenopausal no DC. Bit worried it will hurt. Said local Anaesthetic will be used on cervix and gas and air available. Anyone else experience please advise

Hi @Happydays777

i had one a few months ago, it was uncomfortable, but I’d say not agony. The worst part for me was getting the coil fitted!

Also had one a few months ago. Just took paracetamol. It was fine, just uncomfortable. Every woman will be different though.

I’ve had dreadful pain with a clinic biopsy- I know it’s not necessarily the same for everyone though. As I’ve needed regular biopsies over the last 3 years I have insisted on a Hysteroscopy every time. Only some general soreness afterwards compared to not being able to walk without pain for days with the in-clinic biopsy.
ETA I think it depends on who is performing the biopsy as well.

There are quite a lot of posts on here about hysteroscopies so it’s worth searching for them. I had one last year under GA as I was fairly certain i would not be able to cope with the pain. Some women find them mildly uncomfortable, but enough describe it as an experience akin to medieval torture to convince me a GA was the way to go.
