Endo / Adeno - life changing treatment at last!

I need to shout this from the rooftops - I’m 46, have endo / Adeno and it was destroying my life and was on the brink of a hysterectomy. Went to see a new gynae and he suggested we try having 2 mirena’s instead of 1.
Had it done under GA, within a week I was more or less pain free. He then put me on a GLP-1 micro dose and all my inflammation has gone! I’ve also lost 4KG. I feel like I have my life back and had to share it - complete game changer!

2 mirenas? I have never heard of that before!

traitorrrs · 03/10/2026 23:02

What?! Talk to me about the microdose! How does it work? Is the consultant prescribing it? So pleased for you!

The pharmacist was very bemused when I went to collect 2!
He’s prescribed me a 10mg pen and taught me how to count the clicks as a 2.5mg dose every 12-14 days.

Can I ask, is this in the UK as will speak to my Dr about it? I've had 7 surgeries since Sept 2024 and now having to consider a hysterectomy. I'm 37 and it worries the life out of me

I wonder if this is something all NHS gynaes would do?

TheRealSmurfette · Yesterday 08:53

The medical advice is to not count clicks. Seems bizarre a gynae would suggest that.

HeBeaverandSheBeaver · Yesterday 09:11

I hear it’s great for inflammation so that makes sense. Are you in uk tho?

Isn't it to not count clicks unless under medical supervision? I know someone on it for diabetes and they are given a higher dose pen and were taught to count clicks , I assume it's cheaper for the NHS to buy one 10mg pen than 4 x 2.5s

Summerhillsquare · Yesterday 09:25

Clearly not in the UK at best...I do hope this post is in good faith given the number of British women who suffer with this.

For some women progesterone irritates endometriosis so a mirena isn’t always a good idea. Mine had to come out a few hours after being inserted due to severe pain. I had HRT add-back when on GNRH analogues and the progesterone aggravated the endometriosis. I doubt any doctor would give GLP1s to those of us who are the lower end of BMI. Losing 4kg would make me underweight.
Surely the risk of uterine perforation is higher with two IUDs?

This isn’t medical advice.

Hi OP, I’m glad you have found a treatment that works for you. I had one Mirena inserted after endometrial ablation, then went on GLP-1, this worked well for a while but I then developed fibroids and endometriosis on my bowels. It was great while it worked, but eventually it stopped working for me. My uterus had collapsed due to the ablation, and I couldn’t get a new coil fitted. I just had a hysterectomy. I’m now pain free, and my meno symptoms are fully managed with HRT. Hysterectomy is not a fun procedure, but it’s not necessarily a bad thing, and has been a great relief for me.

Not in the UK - I’m in Australia. All done privately. I found 1 mirena agony and was in A&E days after thinking it had moved as the pain was so bad. I’m not overweight, I can’t drop another 4kg but the initial weight loss has helped me feel loads better. Weight is now stable - no side effects. I appreciate this isn’t for everyone but for me it’s been life changing.
My gynae’s wife has Adeno - so he’s made it his life’s mission to find solutions to a debilitating disease. I could get a 2.5mg pen, but he recommended counting clicks on the 10mg pen as cheaper per dose, and given the amount of money I’ve thrown at this disease I was grateful to save $100’s on the higher dose pen. Wish I’d seen him earlier!

No chance of this hope ing in uk as the nhs is broken and women’s health is not in the list of priorities sadly. We all have to suffer. Maybe in 20 years this will happen for our daughters 😔

Friendof · Today 09:41

Sadly the Australian public system is no better, but we are incentivised to have private healthcare which allows you access to treatment. Seeing the consultant, the op and the prescription cost me after private health roughly £1000-£1250

They won't.

I’m in Australia and have not been advised any of this. I have Adenomyosis and had surgery in 2022 to have a mirena fitted because I had 3 fibroids which meant they needed to be cut so the mirena could be inserted. I went on HRT in 2024 and was prescribed oestrogel.
Fast forward to now my fibroids have multiplied from 3 to 12, the largest of which is 8cm. My uterus is the same size as a 5 months pregnant woman. The only thing I can do now is have a hysterectomy.
Not once has any of your drs cure been mentioned neither by my dr or friends who also suffer with this condition, it’s sounds pretty radical!
2 mirenas has blown my mind lol

IjustbelieveinMe · Today 10:51

Which gynaecologist are you using?

traitorrrs · Today 15:27

Would have been helpful to point out in the OP that you were using private healthcare in Australia.
