2 periods a month

Am 50 so guessing this is peri. Asked Dr about it and she was very dismissive. Should I ask someone else? Would it worry you? Do they just increase in frequency then stop?

Go to a different place that sounds odd

PersephoneParlormaid · 01/10/2026 08:22

Mine got closer and closer together, they also got heavy and I had flooding so ended up anaemic. So I got a mirena coil and wish I’d got it sooner.

Seek a second opinion from another GP within the practice. If this person is not helpful
then ask for a referral letter to see a gynaecologist.

You need to address the cause of this bleeding as well as treating the symptoms. Fibroids and endometriosis for instance can both cause heavy bleeding.

TheRealSmurfette · 01/10/2026 22:06

It’s not especially heavy, it’s just 2 periods a month. So more frequent.

But yes I may seek a second opinion.

I've just started with this but I'm 45, I've made an appointment but I'm am going to refuse to be fobbed off.

It isn't normal and it is life limiting - I'm going to push for HRT I think

Thats double the blood loss, so watch for symptoms of anaemia

Yeah have done HRT as stopped after 2 years. It wasn’t for me.
But it has helped a lot of my friends!
I do think it’s pretty normal for periods to increase in frequency before they stop. I just wanted some reassurance from the dr that there wasn’t anything sinister to worry about. A scan maybe…?

I can’t stand the idea of a coil. It makes me feel faint thinking about it.

Yes I have the same. My mum had fibroids and hysterectomy younger than i am now so am having an ultra sound. I am coming up for 49. Every freaking month its new symptoms. It's quite common but unsettling and all symptoms can be mixed with other stuff. Have an scan. I really don't like this age group of transition.

Edited

Might ask for a scan next time I’m in there 👍🏼

When I was 50 my periods got closer together and occasionally I got one every two or every three weeks, then they got further apart and about 11 months ago just stopped (fingers crossed I get to a year as I have felt so much better since my periods stopped). I’m 53 now.

Periperi2025 · Yesterday 21:26

Consider getting a Mirena, if you don't get on with it the Dr is obliged to remove it (even if this might annoy them). I wish I'd got mine way sooner than I did.

over50andfab · Yesterday 22:57

It can be really normal in perimenopause for periods to be closer together or further apart, lighter or heavier, shorter or longer. I used to get a really heavy period one month resembling Culloden then miss the next one and then get two in one month. Some lucky women find that their periods go from being normal to just stopping completely.

I’m truly hoping this is it! 🤞🤞🤞
