Hi, I’m currently going through hair shedding this has been ongoing for over a year. I got hair extensions but that’s made it worse. I’ve had them taken out now and I’m wondering if anyone has any help/ideas to help my hair? I literally dread hair wash day. I have long hair but it’s gone so fine so I’m going for a chop, around shoulder length. I can’t use some hair regrowth products as I have animals
thank you

Have u had your Ferritin checked?

Genuinely, there is almost nothing that works.

Minoxidyl, which I assume you're referring to as you mention pets, only works for hair loss caused by female pattern baldness which is hereditary. You can take it in tablet form, so no issue with pets.

I've tried everything. Minoxidyl does work a bit for me, but it only helps regrowth, it doesn't prevent shedding, and my regrowth cannot keep up with my shedding so it's big just the female pattern baldness causing my issue.

I don't know why I have hair loss. I have high ferritin, good iron absorption and no thyroid issues. Once that's checked the NHS doesn't care, so unless I go privately I'll never know. And I really don't think think there are any fixes.

HRT hasn't made any difference.

All the usual stuff - gentle washing, wrap in towel don't rub dry, not too much heat, don't dye, don't brush when wet, wear a hat, eat well etc etc. None of it prevents the birds nest I get in my hand every time I wash it.

(Various supplements online mainly only given me constipation and a lower bank balance)

You can try oral minoxidil as that’s not toxic to cats/dogs like the scalp application versions are.

I take 18mg of iron, I’m hoping having Gbr hair extensions help, thank you for your replies

the gp said my scalp was so dry the hair was falling out and gave me a shampoo to help.

it did a bit but ive lost 3/4 of my hair since menopause. i’ve only a quarter left now. i cut it shorter in case the weight was pulling the root ball out. can’t say it helped.

when i put my head to the side and let my hair hang down and look at it in the mirror, i can see through it. previously i could not.

sigh. i hate menopause.
