Vulva punch biopsy experiences

Hi all

I’m due to have a vulval punch biopsy to confirm lichen sclerosis or dermatitis next month.

The leaflet makes it sound a bit non eventful but having been told to just take painkiller for coil insertion (wtf!!) and reading posts online, I fear it’s not as straightforward as that.

Would like to hear all experiences good and bad and any tips to prepare.

i had an episiotomy during childbirth a few years ago and still traumatised by that healing process (infection, couldn’t walk). So trying to get my head in a better place before the appointment!

I had one about 10years to confirm lichen planus - and it was honestly ok. I was expecting to be quite shaken and for it to be sore, painful to sit down etc and it wasn’t at all. It was nippy, and I’m glad I haven’t needed another one but not awful!
I took painkillers beforehand and had planned a lazy day but I could have got back to work. It also healed very quickly.

The thought of it was far, far worse than the reality, try not to worry - I know that’s easier said than done!

Totally painless and no problems after. I assume there was a bit of local anaesthetic but it was such a non-event I can't remember.

I had one a couple of years ago to confirm LS; the injection of the local anaesthetic was quite a sharp pain and then I couldn't feel anything and all healed up quickly. I had the fear beforehand as I had never had any kind of surgery but it was fine although I was exhausted when I got home and slept for a few hours.

I assume they are giving you local anaesthetic? I wouldn't fancy doing it without one.

Thanks so much all. Yes defo local anaesthetic being given. I’d read the injection can be a shock, I make ask for some numbing spray beforehand just to take the edge off slightly. Really glad you all had good experiences
