Thrush symptoms after treatment.

Need advice please- I am currently experiencing my 2nd episode of thrush. I went to see a private gp as I needed to know what it was which was confirmed by a swab (candida albicans). I have just finished a week course of fluconazole and I still have quite a bad burning sensation. Its really getting me down as i have never had it until recently and its been weeks now. I am so miserable with it..does anyone know if the red inflammation will heal by itself after the infection? She gave me some estroil/ estrogen but I stopped taking it once it was confirmed to be thrush. Im 41. She has said she will test my blood sugar for diabetes as I have a UA thyroid and it can be common.

Have you been scratching it? I havent had thrush in a long time but I alwsys used the cream and it just seemed to soothe things, has your doctor mentioned any cream?

I have the same situation. I've had it a few days and used the pessary which is usually enough. The burning is still awful. Don't use any scented products including shower gel at all. Don't drink any alcohol or eat any sugar. Drinks lots of water. It can take some time to settle down and I don't find oral treatment works for me.

No, the itching has gone thankfully but I can see in the mirror that its quite inflamed still. Not sure if infection is there still or should maybe ask to trial estrogen as it did help a bit within a few days. I have the cream just from the canestan duo pack but its just the external one.

Thanks, I have tried everything. Switched to non bio, sanex shower gel, cut out carbs. Dont think the pessary has helped much or it's too soon to say. I started to talk a good probiotic so will see if it does anything.

I am still feeling burning 😬 i do feel better but definitely not fully there! Should I visit pharmacy tomorrow to see what they say or do I need to just give it time to heal?

Oh really- it is so disheartening how long it takes to heal. I used a pessary on Monday so will maybe just see how it fairs over the weekend! Have literally had symptoms mostly since the start of August so truly fed up now!

I had a problem with this, which was kicked off by my copper coil, as it can do in some women.
I had to have prescribed Fluconazole - a loading dose of one every other day for a week and then once a week for 6 months. I also needed the cream to take the inflammation down. It also transpired that my ferritin was low, which can exacerbate skin problems. Since I've sorted out my iron it hasn't come back, so it might be worth asking for a blood test too. Do go back to the GP if it's not improving.

Think dresses and big pants no tights for day time.
pj bottoms no pants to sleep in bed.
Has your partner taken meds (if you have have done the business recently he could be passing it back to you so if that’s the case you need them to get treated - this was my weakest link previously)
The doc can give you really strong pessary (stronger than you can buy OTC for 5 consecutive days) that killed it for me. You need to speak to the doc as otherwise it just keeps on popping back up and it’s awful.

id swap sanex its got a lot of chemicals in.

Hopefully you will feel better soon.

Thank you- we use condoms so think risk should low for any exchange but I can honestly think of nothing worse at the minute so its been a while lol. I will maybe go back to dr next week and ask for the pessary then thanks.
I already sleep with nothing under pj bottoms- haven't worn anything other than Granny pants for a long time now 😅 What would you recommend instead of sanex then? Im trying just to use water round my bits!

I have read that hormonal contraception can kick it off, I am not on any at min. Will definitely go back to GP next week if no better. Can I ask if it totally cleared for you after the 6 months? I do have the canestan external cream which does seem to help a bit!

It did in the end, although I have kept on top of my iron, because I think that contributed to it recurring / not clearing. I'm also much more careful to look after the skin down there in general - probiotic wash, lots of lube for sex and a bit of probiotic oil around ovulation as the skin seems very sensitive and a bit irritated then. It's miserable but I definitely recommend keep putting the cream on the irritated skin.
