Do you lose track of eye prescriptions and appointment dates?

Just wondering, for people who wear glasses/contact lenses and get them from places like Specsavers, Boots, Vision Express etc, do you ever lose your prescription or find it hard to find it when you need it? Or forget when your next eye test/contact lens check is? And if so, do you think it would be useful to have one online platform where you could keep your prescriptions, appointments, contact lens info and stuff all in one place?

No, I take a photo of my prescription so I can look it up when necessary. Boots and Specsavers send reminders of appointments.

SillySallySaidSo · 21/09/2026 14:36

No, i take a photo of the prescription and specavers email me when its time for my eye test.

AdeleRochester · 21/09/2026 14:36

I just note them in my phone calendar.

As for my prescription, my optician gives me a print out after every appointment and will email it over if I lose it.

LittlePetitePsychopath · 21/09/2026 14:39

No. Most opticians have portals that you can view your prescriptions in; and you can always ask them for a copy anyway. Just about every optician emails me when my eye test is due 😂

SnortCorner · 21/09/2026 14:43

I work for an independent optician. We provide patients with their prescription. We also send recall letters/emails/texts when they're due a review and/or eye test.

ConfusedAnxiousMum · 21/09/2026 14:48

No, I file away the reports electronically, make a note in my calendar when the next eye test is due. The optician sends me a reminder (usually several!) anyway.

Ratherbeadolphin · 21/09/2026 15:51

All the providers you mention send emails and/or texts reminding when it is time to for a review and usually before appointments. I usually rely on that. Or put a note in my calendar/diary. Regarding prescriptions I put paper ones in a folder. Sometimes they spend time in a tray of similar stuff pending filing. You could also scan them into a folder on your computer. But the provider will probably supply a copy if necessary.

There are a variety of online apps and calendars that will help you organise your stuff.

Not at all. You’ll have to think of another idea for your app.

CloudyWithAChanceOfCustard · 21/09/2026 18:24

No, they send you a reminder and you can ask them for your prescription by email.

EveryDayisFriday · 21/09/2026 18:27

I save them on my Google drive.

sweatybettytoday · 21/09/2026 18:37

I just make an appointment once I’ve recieved the final warning saying they won’t send me my contact lenses until I’ve had an appointment 😂 I’m adhd though

"do you ever lose your prescription or find it hard to find it when you need it?"

I feel like I'm missing something but why would I need it? My prescription changes every year so they use that to make my new pair of glasses and then...that's it until next year?

Chaletwest · 21/09/2026 19:01

No, it’s the one health service I don’t need extra help with. I’m given a paper copy which I upload once to my online contact lens supplier, and I can physically take to my glasses provider (Asda, as cheapest for varifocals. In fact they have now become my sight test provider so next year I won’t even do that).

Yes this. I do get given a copy of my prescription and it’s filed away somewhere so I could find it if I needed it - but I’ve never had to look at it. I get a reminder when my appointment is due, and then if my prescription has changed I order new glasses then. If I did need new glasses before my next appointment was due, I would just go back to my optician and they would look it up.

Thinkofnewthings · 21/09/2026 19:03

No, I have a photo of the prescription and a paper copy in a drawer. Appointments are on my phone calendar.

MaryBeardsShoes · 21/09/2026 19:05

I do find it difficult to keep track, but I can just ask my optician if I need to. I don’t need another app.

EmmaB1309 · 21/09/2026 20:25

I use boots for my lenses and I always get reminders to go for my checks ups. If I don’t go then I don’t get sent my lenses! And you can log in and check what your current prescription is.

clary · 21/09/2026 20:33

I know my scrip (it’s not hard and it’s on my contact lenses) and get letters when I need an appointment so nope.

bababamama · 21/09/2026 20:52

My opticians reminds me of when my eye test is due and they have my prescription

no. I use the lensmail scheme with specsavers . they deliver and I pay by direct debit so I don't have to do anything other then attend the yearly contact lens check up once a year which they email me to remind me when its due

LIZS · 22/09/2026 14:06

I know where to check it and Specsavers send me reminders for appointment, so no.
