Help I think I have piles or at least hope that’s all it is. Wasn’t sure where to post this tbh. I do have quite bad health anxiety so would appreciate no replies about serious issues please. I am worried enough.

Im post menopausal so nothing to do with childbirth or anything (I’m an old bird) but noticed I felt a bit sore when I was wiping my bum. I was a bit constipated a few weeks ago. Applied some cream and found what I think is a haemorrhoid. Think it’s internal as I can push it up but it feels quite big to me but you can’t always tell and my anxiety does skew my perception. Tried the cream for a few days but, apart from stinging a bit, hasn’t really helped.
I am going to have to show my bum to the doc I know but meanwhile can anyone help to calm me down?
My head is all over the place. I know it’s quite common and I should know better at my age but I need help to stop overthinking.
Thank you.

I don't understand how you are so worried about what is a common occurrence and definitely not a life-threatening condition. What is it you're worried about?

Motomum23 · 16/09/2026 14:09

Are you in pain?? I have had haemeriods for years - 4 babies will do that to your bowels! And honestly I haven't once considered displaying my anus to a doctor. The creams are rubbish- get suppositories much more useful. Eat plenty of fibre. It will go on its own.

Sparkletastic · 16/09/2026 14:10

Yup that’s a haemorrhoid. Get the triple action suppositories. The cream is next to useless unless they are fully external. NSAIDs with a meal or glass of milk may help too.

And get some Anusol wipes to use after a bowel movement - they will help to soothe.

Flippin heck ladies. If you have never had health anxiety you won’t understand why OP is worried and why you can’t just forget about it and get on with things. I wouldn’t wish it on anyone.
Any lumps and bumps that don’t go away need to be checked out whether they are in your ear or in your arse 😳. Maybe give it a while to see if it goes then get the doc to check if you are still concerned.

But yes piles are very common. Don’t worry about going to doctor as they see this all the time. There are a few different pessaries and creams that can help but knowing what it is for sure will set your mind at ease. Good luck.

I am sorry if I have annoyed anyone. As I mentioned I have bad health anxiety and worry too much. I have a lump and my thought processes are different to the normal unanxious person so will think the worst. But I am not a hypochondriac and don’t imagine things that aren’t there. I don’t want to show my bum to the doctor either.

I am not in much pain. Just sore really but can’t take NSAIDs as I have gastritis.

However thank you for the suggestions. I shall try the pessaries and if no better will go to docs.
