Hi All
6 months ago I started suffering with painful excessive gas and abdominal cramps that were relentless. I saw my GP after a few weeks who did a load of blood tests all normal and a FIT test which was negative. It resolved for 4 weeks but now its back. I have no other symptoms so they won't send me for further tests but I also cant go on in pain like this. I've never suffered from IBS but im wondering if its all menopause related... any advice would be greatly appreciated

Hi
I’ve been getting IBS-like symptoms on and off around my cycle for about 2 years. I've had FIT tests done twice. At first, I had awful constipation and heartburn, Now it's mainly IBS-D. When I'm not having flare-up, I feel fine, but I still need to be prepared whenever I go out. Things have been much calmer atm. Around certain time of the month, I can't tolerant eggs and some other foods. Btw, I never used to get cramps, but now I sometimes I get them before my period is due.

I’ve read that these symptoms can be caused by changes in the gut during perimenopause, as it can affect bowel movements and gut sensitivity.

Write your symptoms in your diary and keep a food diary too.
Probiotics might help. Try to avoid foods that trigger gas. If it get worse, book another appt with your GP.

I've got some Silicolgel from Boots - I took it last time and it helped.
