First mammogram experience

Had my first mammogram yesterday (joys of being over 50!) Is it normal to have bruising around the insides of the tops of my arms? I am quite overweight, I don't remember feeling pinched in the bruised areas. Is it normal for the radiographer to manhandle you a lot, she wasn't particularly gentle either. I actually left feeling a bit sore where I'd been grabbed and shoved into the machine. I felt a little violated to be honest but as it was my first I wasn't sure what to expect and she didn't explain at the beginning how much she'd be manhandling me. Is this normal or am I being a drama queen?

Normal re the manhandling. I didn't have bruises after but she definitely did a lot of lifting and squishing. They need to get as close into the armpit area as possible which was v uncomfortable but gives the most thorough result.

I had a first mammogram recently and had been dreading it, as my mum had similar experiences to you.
mine was actually fine; not painful and no bruises.
if you’re worried, then I’d see if the minor injuries unit might see you - as it’s a BH weekend and the out of hours GPs will be bonkers.

i hope you’re ok x

I had a bit of bruising on my ribs I think and also a little on my actual breast. It went after a couple days.

So yeah I think many people do get a bit. It could be anywhere in that region really depending on your shape and size and the density of your breasts.

I have extremely dense but small ones so they had to do it twice and there wasn't much to 'grab' which did make it a bit painful. I think maybe if you've bigger breasts it might be logistically a bit easier?

I was very bruised after my first one and it hurt when driving over sleeping policeman. Second one was loads better and not bruising or pain at all.
