PCOS and no period for 8 months

Having a very flat day today. Recently I was diagnosed with PCOs following an early pregnancy loss in Feb. Following the loss my periods never returned. I was left for months with no explanation. I know have a diagnosis of PCOS and on a treatment wait list.

i came off birth control in Sept 2025 to TTC and my periods immediately returned and were regular. I never experienced PCOS symptoms before other than the occasional
bout of cystic acne (made worse on the pill rather than without). With out BC I’ve never had issues and never missed a period in my life until I conceived.

i honestly thought they would come back. I eat well, eat low glycemic, low sugar and limit caffeine and alcohol. Never smoked. I take myo-inositol, Vitamin D, omega 3 daily. Also drink spearmint tea. Walk 8-10,00 steps per day and low intensity workouts 3 times per week. I’m also having regular acupuncture and addressed all stress in my life. I’m 31 and otherwise fit and healthy. Bloods and scans all ok other than PCOS follicles found.

im deflated because I can’t believe my periods have not returned. I know PCOS is complex but I never pretended symptoms for 20 years and now this! I had regular periods for 10 years through my teens before BC. I’ve also come off BC twice and my periods returned each time with no issues. Deflated when I’m trying so hard and seeing no results.

That must be a worry, sorry you are having to deal with this.

I am not sure how this has come up on my suggested topics, but I have PCOS as well.l and a very similar story. I’m not sure which myo-inositol you take, but I used the one from Fertility Family : https://www.fertilityfamily.co.uk/product/inofolic-alpha/

Apparently it has a special formulation that makes it better to absorb. I’m not sure whether that is true, or actually different from other brands but it worked for me - brought my periods back and after 3 months I got pregnant. Make sure you take both sachets each day.

wishing you all the luck in the world. I’ve been there and I totally sympathise.

Just checking you are also taking folic acid? It won't help you conceive but is important for the first 12 weeks of pregnancy so always best to be taking it if TTC.

Yes also taking folic acid ☺️

Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) has been officially renamed polyendocrine metabolic ovarian syndrome (PMOS) so if you see PMOS written down on notes going forward you will know why.

I think you are doing all you can so please try not to beat yourself up over this.

Will you be under the care of a fertility clinic going forward?. I have PMOS too and had the cystic follicles operated on via a keyhole surgery op called laparoscopic diathermy. These cystic follicles (some are dormant whilst others contain hormones and yet another may contain an egg) do come back but ovulation returned for me in the meantime. Verity's website on PCOS/PMOS could be very helpful to you and knowledge is power.

You may need medication to induce a period. I think being under a fertility clinic is a good idea.

Thanks all! I think i‘m finding it tough because I just thought things would go back to how they were, for someone who prior to now had no issues.

I know it’s now PMOS, and correctly so, but some are still unfamiliar with this.

i have been prescribed progesterone to induce a bleed, which work perfectly. I had concerns that my womb lining was thin, but this proved not to be the case. However it did not kick start my hormones as I hoped it would, I knew this was not a guarantee.

the fertility specialist will prescribe meds to support ovulation I believe, just waiting to hear when I can be seen. Waitlist for this was 4 months. Prior to diagnosis the gynae waitlist was 12 months which I also find hard.

also having all usual PMS symptoms each month just no period! Trying to stay hopeful but deflated that I tried so hard to get some normality back and it’s not worked so far

To be fair, OP, it's not unusual to have zero periods with this diagnosis - I didn't have one for years until, sadly, they came back regularly in my late 40s.
If you are already seeking medical support then they will be able to advise you (& manage your expectations).

Thank you! Yeah I understand it varies so much in women, but I think I was so surprised because I went from having 0 symptoms for 20 years, with regular periods never missing one, to now everything grinding to a halt after miscarrying. I’m in the best shape I have been for a while, being mindful, eating well, supplementing etc. yet when I ate / drank what I wanted and was out more and stressed more I never had an issue.

my sister has always had PCOS/PMOS. Diagnosed in early teens and always had irregular periods, months without and other major issues. But Her periods are no longer an issue. She was very unwell last year and had strong chemo for a year, yet her periods never stopped and she had no issues despite being unwell and have strong chemo. Yet I’ve had no issues for 20 years and now this! The body works in mysterious ways!
