Granulation tissue due to episiotomy

Hello. Has anyone had granulation tissue grow along their episiotomy scar line and / or their tears following childbirth?

I had the tissue grow after my first child - 7 years ago! GP said it happens and to remove it would be surgery, that could then result in more scar tissue and the cycle begins. So I left it.

Had another baby, one tear. Looks like that also has granulation tissue at the site.
Ive never asked to follow up. But now, years later I’m fed up of this ugly tissue. It’s sometimes tender during sex and then sore a day or so later on the side of the episiotomy, otherwise no daily issues.

Ive read about silver nitrate being used to remove the tissue. Has anyone dealt with this? Has anyone just lived with it? Do other women have lumps and bumps following childbirth?

I had it with my first. They just took it off in a clinic. It had to be done twice because first time didn’t get it all. First time I don’t know what they used. Second time SN. Easy and painless.

Thanks for sharing @GoodStuffAnnie. I’m going to contact GP next week. The episiotomy area tissue has been confirmed as granulation tissue by a GP, but I’ve just decided myself that this extra piece is the same but from the tear. Can I ask.. was yours like a little fleshy blob? Or how else to describe? Slightly nervous, but can’t see what else it is- not like a cyst or anything else!

Tbh I don’t know - never looked etc. It was painful though. It hurt all the time. A heavy feeling. Get it sorted out. You shouldn’t be suffering.

I live with mine, but it doesn't bother me. I've got used to the new landscape down there 😂 If it's hurting you definitely don't suffer in silence!

I had surgery to resolve mine, best decision I ever made. I was warned I could have scarring return and it did slightly but hardly anything. Mine was quite bad though with it being mainly internal so made sex very painful/almost impossible.

Yes! I have this now, 5 months post partum. I knew it wasn’t healing well, saw GP around 2.5months who said it looked fine. Still wasn’t happy another month later so went back and the nurse practitioner who saw me was rather aghast and referred back to gynae. I think some of it is internal and it’s like a big fleshy blob hanging out. I can’t contemplate sex and it’s uncomfortable. I think it leaks slightly as well due to the rawness.

So frustrating as I had a really decent Labour, avoided forceps and felt ok afterwards, just this standing in my way of feeling totally normal.

Sorry to hear you’re suffering. Yes, it’s like a little blob. I liked the PP that said it’s a new landscape though! That’s it- I’m going to GP this week to ask for options. Hope you get it resolved x
