Experiences of the progesterone-only pill for heavy periods in possible early perimenopause

Hi there, I know we are will react differently but I just wanted to ask of your experiences with the Progesterone only pill? I am 43 and having so many symptoms during ovulation and periods that I never used to have quite as bad - I did try HRT but had horrible anxiety feelings and poor sleep as a side effect, I perhaps didn’t give it enough time as I stopped it quite quickly after starting but perhaps think I am maybe not quite ready for it. I just could do without the monthly ups and downs that come with periods now, they are also heavy for first 2 days and I have low iron so might also help with that? Currently taking iron bisglycinate to try to bring back up. Would welcome any of your thoughts, experiences and comments. Thanks for reading x

Sorry no experience but interested in this. I’ve had really heavy periods for no discernible reason since about 40, disablingly so. I take Tranexamic acid which has stopped the anaemia and made life manageable but I wonder if the prog pill would be good for me.

My advice is to push for other testing (full bloods etc) to rule out other causes before just accepting the pill, because I did this years ago and it turned out I had a hormone imbalance and vitamin B deficiency and now I am having to get infusions done for osteoporosis and nerve damage that was entirely preventable!

These doctors have a tendency to blame every female issue on menopause, weight, or anxiety.

Thank you - I’ve had all blood tests, including hormones, Vit D and B12, and everything normal except ferritin which I am taking tablets for - I do have an under active thyroid which has been problematic this year but am now taking a slightly higher dose to try and address that. I just notice I am always ‘symptomatic’ during ovulation and period, I seem to be ok in between - but as cycles are between 25-28 days it feels like as soon as one ends another begins!
