Could my mirena coil have slipped/moved?

I’ve had a mirena coil for coming up 4 years (I’m 40 now). Apart from a very painful insertion and a few weeks of cramping it’s been good.
couple of weeks ago I had what I would call a proper period with fresh blood compared to the light spotting and ‘old’ blood that I’ve had occasionally since insertion of the coil. DH and I had sex on Tuesday and he said after that he could feel something hard and he’s not felt it before. This afternoon I’ve got really uncomfortable lower back pain, like just before a period or even early labour! for context I’ve never been able to feel the strings of it. Do think I could have a problem here or just a little bit of hormonal stuff going on? My research tells me IUDs rarely move and if they do it’s usually within the first months. Not sure whether to just ignore or try and see the doctor/nurse on Monday

my second coil moved out of place after 8 months

get back to your GP/HCP and ask them to check it, you may need a scan but if they can feel the strings may just swap it out

the second coil insertion is not fun though sorry

Thanks @Chocolateteabag how did you know it had moved? My first coil insertion was so awful I can’t imagine it being worse - took them three tries to get it in then my blood pressure dropped and I fainted 🙄

I started to get breakthrough bleeds and my meno symptoms came back in force - basically felt a bit “off” so got it checked

Yes, get it checked. They can definitely move, my first coil started coming out after a Pilates class, I could feel the plastic!
