Oestrogen gel dosage after hysterectomy and ovary removal

Hi. I had a hysterectomy and both ovaries removed 18 months ago, aged 48. Recovery has been good and I was put on HRT (oestrogel) after 3/4 weeks. I’ve been on two pumps a day since then and up until a couple of months ago, that’s been fine for alleviating symptoms. However, over the last two months, I’ve been suffering more with brain fog, low mood and most annoyingly, increased joint pain. I’m planning on seeing GP next week to discuss, but I guess I’m just wondering what sort of dosage of oestrogen most people have ended up on after this surgery and a surgical menopause?

You are probably best putting this in the menopause section.

I did think about that, but I know this topic has a lot of users who have had hysterectomies and really want to find out their experience, rather than general menopause. I’ll ask for it to be moved if it doesn’t gain traction

@IsletsOfLangerhans Im on 4 pumps a day and it hasn't helped with joint pain. What does help is cod liver oil and other joint supplements (when I remember to take them, that is). I saw a physio for the joint pain but their suggestions didn't help either

Might be worth looking at testosterone?

Thank you for this - I have thought of supplements, so will look into that this weekend.

Does that help with joint pain? I thought it was more about helping with libido?

I was on 2, which didn't do much so the GP advised I try 4. It made me extremely low and they then advised I stop immediately. I was put onto patches which stopped the low mood and I had no hot flushes/reduced brain fog. My joint pain has increased over the last year, but I'm now in my 50s and 4 years post op, so putting it down to ageing generally now.

I am on 3 sprays of lenzetto a day, absorbs much faster than the gel + 1 pump testosterone a week. Symptoms in the main gone, also take the nutrition geeks meno support bundle.

@IsletsOfLangerhans yes testosterone can help with other stuff as well. It very much helped my arthritis for instance. It is worthwhile you doing some research on the subject at least.

I increased from 2 pumps to 3 and it made a huge difference although I never had joint pain. Would you consider the gym or something like Pilates? Since I started at a gym and do weights my back ache has completely gone. I woke up every morning with back ache for about 2 yrs age 51-52 but joined a gym with a PT with my 53rd birthday money and it has made such a difference altho I am still fat

Thanks for everyone's input. I'm going to speak to GP on Monday and look into some supplements. And get back into the gym!
