Where do you go for smear tests ?

Does your sexual health clinic do smear tests ?

I'm genuinely surprised to find out ours doesn't. There's no choice except my GP and I ain't going there (again).

GP surgery. Wouldn't ever thought that a sexual helath clinic would do them as its part of cancer screening.

What has your issue been with your GP?

GP surgery. They send me the reminder letters so that’s where I’ve always booked

I've always had mine done by the GP. Never had a problem with it.

There is a nurse at my GP practice. She does tonnes of them and it’s quick and painless. I am also surprised it’s not available at the gum clinic.

The nurse at my gp, she’s excellent. She’s more knowledgeable than the young gp’s too on most things, also how to navigate the local nhs for any referrals

One of our local hospitals has a special clinic for people who find smears difficult. I always go through the same rigmarole: I ask straight away for the special clinic, GP says no, they are capable, I go along to the GP appointment which inevitably fails leaving the staff stressed and me upset and uncomfortable, I then get the referral to the clinic, the clinic complete the smear within five minutes with the minimum of fuss.

sigh! I wish there was a direct route to the clinic but no, GP’s are responsible for smear tests.

I always used to go to the Well Woman Clinic (Ireland), this year I went to my GP. Never again (I posted here at the time). The nurse did it and it was extremely painful, I have never experienced that before, it was really unpleasant. Next time I will go back to the WWC!

As a pp said, they are checking for cancerous cells so not sure why you think it would be done at a sexual health clinic.

The big issue with this is I’m a non HPV case who had cervical cells removed, so if it comes back with HPV via Superdrug do you then book for another test?

I’ve started doing the HPV swab kit at home. Really easy and quick. As I understand if it’s positive for HPV you will need further testing but mine have been negative so far.

That's what I was going to suggest. They only test for Hpv now and throw the sample away if negative.

No they don't. They check for HPV. They only test the cells if positive. They throw the sample away if negative.

How did you know you had to have the cells removed as they throw the sample away if negative.
