Menstrual cup or disk ?

I’ve never used either but since having my daughter 2 years ago my periods have gotten very heavy for the first 2 days to the point now where I can’t depend on tampons or pads if I’m out and not near a bathroom and I personally don’t like period pants for during the day I just wouldn’t feel clean not being able to change them all day . So my question is what’s the difference between menstrual a disc and a cup and which would you recommend and why ?

I don’t know what a menstrual disc is, but a moon cup has been very effective for me with heavy periods

They are comfortable, hygienic and provide a good physical barrier for heavy flow/clots in my experience

I use a mooncup and like it. Had never heard of a disk. Just had a look - they look good but expensive. Double the price of a mooncup. I can't see that there will be any benefit.

I’ve tried both, neither work for me, I think it’s because I sit with my legs tucked under me and fidget but I move a particular way and feel them move and then they always end up leaking. The disc was much easier to insert and more comfortable once it was in. The cup needs a bit of practice to get it in right.

Did you twist the cup after insertion?

I used a cup for over 10 years when I had periods , it was fantastic.

I think my anatomy doesn’t quite agree with it, I can get it so the suctions there and It’s fully open, if I go about my day normally it’s fine. It’s when I sit down and fidget, I cross my legs and tuck them under me and I almost feel it move and then disaster strikes.

I'n my experience that happens because you haven't turned it once it's in so there isn't proper suction then it moves. You have to give it half a turn. Saying that ,not everything works for every body.

I use both (lost my cup, replaced with the nixit disc after a friend recommended, then found the cup!)

The disc is a little trickier because if my cervix is too high I can’t always get it to cover it properly. But when it’s in right it holds much more blood than my cup (Diva).

Emptying the disc is messy. On my heavy days I double up with a washable sanitary towel to avoid needing to empty it out and about (I do that with my cup too).

Also if you chose either cup or disc you have to be persistent - for each one it took me about three periods to get the hang of it (you think you have the hang of it, then your period finishes so you can’t practice anymore and you’re back at square one the next month!) That was my experience anyway.
