Bleeding 6 weeks post subtotal hysterectomy

I had a subtotal hysterectomy (kept my cervix and ovaries) 6 weeks ago. I've had what is I assume a normal recovery pathway. I've been feeling well and have resumed normal activities mostly ie housework, driving, trips out and so on.

Today - during a bowel movement if that is relevant - I've had some fresh, bright red bleeding. It's light and only on wiping.

I have emailed my consultant's secretary to ask for advice but as is always the case with these things, it's a Saturday so can't see my GP and I doubt 111 will have any knowledge.

Has anybody experienced this?

Call 111. Could be haemorrhoids though.

Not sure they'd cause vaginal bleeding.

Is there anything 111 can do about this on a Saturday?

Oh I thought it was from there as you mentioned during a bowel movement.
111 can arrange for you to see a GP at a hospital if they deem it necessary. I was told after mine to contact the hospital where I had the surgery performed if any issue.

The bleeding stopped very quickly indeed. I spoke to my surgeon yesterday and he said he isn't concerned at all if there were no clots, it stopped and I have no pain. He said there were several things it could have been but almost none of them of concern if it's resolved as above.

I've no idea what it was but I am just hoping and praying it doesn't happen again.

I had a bit similar when I had my sub total some years ago. My gynaecologist at my follow up appointment said not to worry; something to do with the cervix still being there and it happening at a time when I would have been menstruating previously. I’m a bit vague because it was quite a few years ago now but I remember it only happened for a couple of months at the same time frame - ie fitting with my previous cycle. The explanation I was given made sense at the time. If it’s the same for you it might follow a similar pattern.

My consultant said exactly that about it most likely being related to keeping my cervix and something to do with my cycle though not a period per se.

It was just a shock as I'd started to celebrate not bleeding after 14 months of continuous bleeding.
