With a UTI, when does the very slight burny feeling at the end of a pee go away?

This is my first UTI, i had 2 lots of antibiotics, just finished last lot, 3 days of each. Am awaiting a result on my urine sample this week. I feel much better, but now and then notice a slight twinge at the end of a pee. Is this normal. I thought the burny feeling would just disappear entirely, does it linger a tiny bit now and then, then go entirely?

Appreciate any advice.

Hi I have just finished a 3 day course of antibiotics (second time I have had an UTI so was very quick to call the GP as it’s horrible pain). The burn at the end of a pee should have gone completely if you took your meds correctly spaced evenly out. Drink plenty of water but call your doc if it hasn’t completely cleared up.

If you still have the burning pain you should tell your GP, I always need longer on antibiotics then the 3 days of antibiotics they give you.

Some times mine clear up after 3 days, other times it takes up to a week.

Are you drinking enough? You’ve really got to be on the drinks every hour even with antibiotics. You can put some bicarb in some lemon barley if you don’t have any sachets of cystitis type relief. ( lemon barley is good in particular. I never found cranberry juice to be much cop personally ). I am a long time sufferer so am pretty good with the self care at the start of an attack. I’ve often found 3 days antibiotics not enough and some types
of antibiotics don’t cut it at all.

How old are you?
It’s really important to take vaginal oestrogen as you approach peri menopause.

And drinking A LOT is helpful as well. Flush it through.

I've had them give different ones at times. The trend is to give these 3 day courses but I've been given for longer . 5-7 days? Nitrofurantoin usually does the trick.

If you are prone to these and over 40 def get some vaginal oestrogen

If this is a persistent problem they will want to investigate first as to whether there is any physical issue eg not voiding properly. If there is none and depending how often you get these they may deem it normal for a woman your age ( depending on your age) and prescribe Vagifem pessaries. They are tiny.

I find it lingers quite a while especially if I have any inflammation left.

Although you have been using vagifem this doesn't treat the outside well. It could be that the stinging is a sign of urethral deterioration (sorry). Some additional topical estrogen in cream or gel form for the outside may help. E.g. Ovestin or Blissel (Blissel weaker but less likely to irritate).
