Recent partial PVD diagnosis - advice wanted

Hello, I was wondering if anyone can give me some advice re a partial PVD.
Had a diagnosis this time last week, so early days - but just wondering how long it has taken others in the same situation for their eye to settle (if it did). I'm assuming that the vitreous needs to fully detach before the eye/brain can get used to it - but I didn't ask this when I was checked out.
At present living with a kind of half pulled down slightly grubby lace roller blind effect over the top part of vision in my left eye, so life has become blurrier, and I am doing best to get on with stuff, but it is making me feel a bit vulnerable.

If your brain adjusts as they say it will, is it possible for your sight to feel more as it did before the partial pvd? Hospital assured me that it'll all disappear with time, but finding that hard to believe right now!
Interested in hearing other people's experiences.
Many thanks

I've not heard of this, but google says its like a sudden influx of a bunch of floaters? Is that correct? And that, like floaters, they'll just dissipate on their own in time? I get floaters frequently, but it must feel quite disconcerting if it's affecting your vision so much.

thank you for your reply. Anyone else who has had experience of pvd? Thanks

Hello again. Just bumping the message to see if anyone who has experienced pvd can give advice. I think just mainly wanting reassurance as finding it very hard to believe that your brain can filter out floaters and eyesight can feel ‘normal’ again. Thanks

Is there a specialist website that might deal with this issue or a Facebook group where you could get help? Can I ask what they said caused it and did it come on suddenly?

Ive had a couple of PVDs, about 20 years ago. My vision is completley normal (apart from the short sight) now. I don’t remember the floaters etc lasting long- maybe 3-4 weeks - but please seek help if they don’t improve, especially if you have a “curtain”. Second one was repaired by laser surgery.

Thank you for your reply. That's reassuring - it's not a solid curtain - more like a lace veil that is covering part of my left eye and making me feel a bit disoriented - but I have noticed it's changed over the last few days, so maybe more is detaching.

I've had it checked out by an optician and also in my local eye hospital A&E and they both say the same thing and to give it 3 months - so I'm being impatient as it's only a recent diagnosis - but it is difficult not to catastrophise, esp. when it's such a sudden change.

I am very short sighted -10 both eyes and have some other eye issues and I had PVDs in both eyes at the same time a few years ago. I really struggled with a lot of flashing lights and lots of cobweb type floaters. I had always had floaters but these were really intense and I really struggled with them. I had it confirmed at the optician and at the eye hospital, like you. I can’t quite remember how long it took for them to settle down; maybe a few weeks for the flashing to stop and over a period of a few months I just gradually became used to the floaters etc. I can still see them and become quite irritated by them if I get too focused on them. I try to move my eyes around to move them out of the way and try to focus on things in the distance so I don’t get too distracted by them. One of the eyes hasn’t completely detached yet, even years later. Apparently they don’t always. Sometimes they just stay like that which is very annoying!

Poor you, that sounds difficult to deal with - both at the same time - I think I'm worrying about that (as well as everything else haha) but there's not much to be done about it if it happens. Thank you for your reply - it's good to know that they do settle down and that what the optician said about brain adapting is true - and also interesting to hear that they don't always detach. It all seems very cut and dried from online info which is why I posted here. Thank you.
