Contraception after 50 and coil removal....

Due to have copper coil out which was inserted 4 weeks before my 40 birthday, had it been inserted when I was 40 it could just stay in!

Has anyone any experience on what we could use now? Not keen on the pill and have thought about a contraceptive cap but not sure if they are outdated now.

So same here, copper coil fitted 1 week before 40th birthday, I was advised if I went back in a week I could keep it in until menopause, but as it was 1 week beforw 40, I needed it changed at 45

Watching with interest. Had mine out at 51. My periods are very sporadic now though

I would push back on wherever it really needs removal. Your chances of conceiving at 50 with a slightly out of date coil are tiny. If you tell them you're happy to take the risk I don't see why you couldn't keep it until the menopause.

I had a coil replaced at 45 due to crossed wires between GP and family planning clinic about whether it was a 5 year one or a 10 year. The new coil since then, which has been ok, but getting it replaced was very painful with labour-like cramps for about 2 days. With hindsight I'd have told them to leave my possibly (but in fact not) out of date coil alone.
