Hideradentis Supperitiva and hair removal

Hello! I have HS, fairly mild in that it doesn't impact my life on the day to day but it does flare up particularly under my arms and around my bikini area.

Under my arms I can get away with shaving with a good sharp razor and being cautious with what deodorant I use (recently changed to fussy deo and its been so much better). But my bikini line I'm almost afraid to touch. The last time I shaved I was due to have a section and I was then tortured for months with awful persistent cysts. My hair is very coarse and wirey around my bikini area but now I'm single and dating again I'd quite like to be able to do some hair removal to tidy things up and trimming isn't quite enough anymore. I know i don't have to but it would make me feel a bit more confident. Any advice? Regular waxing isn't really an option as expensive plus no time.

IPL, expensive but brilliant.

I lasered under my arm and bikini line and never got any HS cysts under my arms as no hair follicles, I did get it in the pubic area but not where I had lasered. So I would say get an IPL machine if you can afford it, otherwise maybe wax so you are hair free for longer as I imagine shaving can cause irritation. If you can’t afford either of these then maybe an epilator? Or just use a trimmer and keep it short ?

Can I ask about IPL does the hair grow back? Do you need to shave first? Did you have periods where it was growing back and creating trouble until it gradually got better?

Epilator is a no go unfortunately, my issue is when it is growing back I get loads of irritation and ingrown hairs. Usually I just trim it short but it goes past where pants/swimwear would cover so I would like that part to be tidied up.

IPL is usually a course of 6 treatments, one a month, to catch the different stage of hair growth, and it gets less and less each time. Usually is shaved before treatment but I’m sure that it can be cut close to the sling instead.

Yes shave before the lazer treatment. It just doesn’t grow back at all or it is patchy and then doesn’t grow back. The hair bulb is literally zapped so it stops producing hairs. So you will need to exfoliate but you shouldn’t have ingrown hairs. It’s definitely worth doing
