Copper coil 😩

Does anyone have the copper coil for contraception & find they have constant thrush and irregular bleeding?
I’ve had it for over a year but only in the last 6 months I have recurring thrush which is so frustrating. The bleeding tends to show up around the same time the thrush does.

I had an ultrasound a few weeks ago and everything was fine, no obvious reason for bleeding and the coil was perfectly positioned.

I am awful on hormones so really don’t want to go back to the pill but I am at witts end with being in pain or bleeding.

Hi OP, I have a copper coil - opted for this rather than mirina coil as I’m sensitive to progesterone.

I found that it took about a year to settle down, frustratingly. I had extremely heavy bleeding for the first 6 months (like flooding through all my clothes in the supermarket level heavy) and persistent BV. It did settle down though, I’ve now had it for 5 years - it’s great and I don’t even give it a second thought.

Could something else be contributing to the thrush though?

@CoffeeBooksRatsim glad it’s settled for you! I bled for the first couple of months and then it settled. These symptoms have come out of nowhere. I have no idea what else could be causing the thrush, I haven’t changed anything. And the ultrasound was clear so nothing concerning there. I’ve also had several pelvic examinations and nobody has found anything out of the ordinary so I’m starting to the think the coil is the cause 😩xx

Hi! I had the copper coil put in, in march had it out two weeks ago! I was fine with it for two months but last month I was getting constant spotting, cramping and a weird discharge, it gave me BV and yes it can cause thrush too, when they took it out it was extremely lose for me and they told me my body was rejecting it. I switched to the kyleena one, as like you couldn’t have the mirena as the hormones in it didn’t agree with me. The kyleena is a 5 year one and it doesn’t have the amount of hormones in it like the mirena coil a lot less so I’m going to see how I get on with this one.
