What are the potential side effects of emergency contraception?

DD18 is off to the pharmacy right now to get emergency contraception - the condom split last night.

What side effects is she likely to experience? Will it cause excessive bleeding? She started a new weekend job last week and can't really take any time off but she is worried about it causing a lot of pain/bleeding.

And, yes, she has already booked a GP appointment to discuss more reliable contraception methods.

I’ve taken it twice in my life over the last 10 years and the only side effect I had was feeling a bit sick, if she vomits she will have to go get another one, but it says that in the little leaflet thing. The pharmacist should be able to tell her if she asks, if not it’ll be in the leaflet :) I don’t think she’ll have to take any time off work though, she should be fine, I was when I took it but everyone takes to things differently.

I’ve taken it and didn’t have any bleeding. I had a little bit of cramping but nothing else, the pharmacy will go through any potential side effects before they give it to her.

Thank you.

She's just off to get it.

I won't tell her about the possibility of nausea as she suffers from severe emetophobia! I'll just keep my fingers crossed she suffers no nausea.
