Weight gain after severe anaemia and heavy periods in perimenopause?

I was ill with anaemia at end of last year with severe anaemia caused by HMB. Peri made my periods heavy and insane gushing. I had blood and iron transfusions and had to be immediately hospitalised and told i could die. Haemoglobin was 45 and its now 130. I have gained over a stone in weight and though I eat the same and exercise 10k steps a day nothing shifts it. I was 8st 6lb now I'm 9st 8lb. Could it be water retention or what!
Under care of gynae. Taking tranexamic acid but it doesn't do anything.. so hysterectomy?
Nothing fits and all the extra weight is on my bum and thighs. My bum sticks out and sore bigger boots but feel crap. MIL making rude comments lime u can see you've been eating well and has suggested slimming club world.
Anyone else had this experience and wwyd? I feel rather meh..

You’ve said you eat the same. Ime that was exactly the problem. You need around 200-300 less calories per day during peri. Overeating by just 100 calories a day leads to a stone weight gain in a year, it all adds up! (3+ stone in my case!))
HRT can prevent all the weight accumulating just around your waist, hips and bum, but it can’t stop actual weight gain if you are consuming too many calories.
My Fitness Pal can be helpful in keeping track of calories, it helped me lose all the peri weight. I was also anaemic with fibroids and heavy bleeding btw, tranexamic was useless and I did end up having a hysterectomy-it’s been life changing! So sorry you are also suffering.

How long ago was the transfusion? It happened to me but with 2 months I’d lost the weight again by doing nothing different. Well I’m 2lbs more than I was pre infusion but I can live with that

It's awful my periods are regular but at 47 peri is on the horizon and a extra few potatoes etc.. yes i suppose it will add up.. add to the fact i was feeling ill so less exercise... my appetite has certainly come back so maybe more mindful eating I do eat a carb heavy diet ie cereal brekfast lunch sandich and fruit and youghurt and fruit as snacks and dinner is usually potatoes and veg and meat. DH is traditional.. so definetly more mindful eating is a thing to look into
