UTI 😢

I started with a uti lower pain in my lower pelvis on friday last week, i thought it was period cramps as i was due my period. Sunday evening these pains still hadn’t let up and was sent to the out of hours GP who gave me antibiotics. (nitrofurantoin) for 3 days!
i went back to my GP yesterday still with a niggly pain the way i can describe where it is, is very top of vagina😐 bladder!
she prescribed me cefalexin 7 days worth.

i feel like the UTI is getting better but the pain is still there it’s not terrible but it’s not better.
also a slight achy pain in my back.

has anybody ever had lingering pain once the UTI is clearing up?

I get this with UTIs OP, particularly since being in my late 30s and onwards.

Try not to stress because that’ll affect your appetite. I find that if you’re prone to UTI / if it’s a bad one the 3 day course of nitro is not enough …

i am 33
well i had nitrites and leukocytes in my urine at the out of hours who gave me the nitro. I went back to my GP yesterday with the pain still but urine clear. Still she gave me 7 days worth of cefalexin.
The pain makes me want to open my bowels when it comes on too. Although this morning i felt it was ok until i went to the toilet and got a sharp shooting pain so now the pain has been there all day along with lower back ache.

i dont suffer with UTI’s and i’ve actually never had lingering pain either i think that’s why my anxiety is up😢

@Kirstymariex - just a thought - have you had the Mirena put in or started new hormonal birth control recently?

Try thrush medication even if no discharge. I get symptomless thrush and always get the lower abdominal pain. Abx can trigger thrush.

But also take the ceph for the rest of the course in case it is still infection causing it.

@Kirstymariex - I had a condition called Aerobic Vaginitis and had symptoms similar to you. I'm not saying that is what you have but just so you are aware of it. Unfortunately it is not widely recognised in the UK.

Here is my story just in case it helps.

I very much hope you get better soon. Xxx

This sounds horrible, make sure you take the full course of antibiotics and go back to GP if pain continues.
Drink plenty of water, reduce sugar intake and sweetened / flavoured drinks.
A good quality Cranberry juice can be helpful.
Is there any chance you could be constipated? Poo pressing on a nerve could cause pain, plenty of water and fibre will help.
If pain continues and you lose any sensation in the saddle area or lose control of your bowels or bladder, seek medical advice at A&E immediately as this could be cauda equina which is serious - unlikely to be this but worth knowing.
Hope you feel better soon.

urine sample was sent to the lab, nothing was found. I’m getting slight twinges in my lower back, still some little twinges in my bladder but mostly feeling better.
my anxiety is on the war path really bad!l thinking something is totally wrong with me that has been missed.
every little niggle pain, twinge etc makes me want to lay down in bed and not move. 😢
