Has anybody, who has not given birth vaginally (failed induction leading to emcs, my cervix was not going anywhere) nor had a coil, had a hysteroscopy without a general anaesthetic? I'm on the urgent referral path and have been told to take 2 paracetamol in advance but am worried it will be agony. Any experience please? TIA

@HysteroscopyWorriesI have. In my case it was absolutely fine although I read so many horror stories online that freaked me out beforehand. The reality seems to be that it is very individual an experience and some women find it very difficult to tolerate whereas others find it to be ok. Key imo is to feel comfortable with the doctor you are seeing so that you are confident in asking the procedure to stop if it’s too uncomfortable.

Thank you everybody- I'm not shy about coming forward so will voice anything I'm not happy about.

That’s a point as well @EllaSW, each of mine was with a different doctor and I sometimes wonder if that made a difference, that some have more of a knack for it than others!

An update! Had it done this morning. I took paracetamol and ibuprofen together beforehand. Consultant and 2 nurses incredibly kind, explained everything beforehand. Consultant noted that I'd had c sections so said she would be totally guided by me and we could stop any time I wasn't comfortable. Was 7/10 painful trying to get the scope in so I had a local. There were a couple of deep breathing moments while she took a biopsy but they were very kind and it turns out to be a polyp. Took a sample and we'll go from there. Consultant said it all looked good but if we need to do anything else ... I put my hand up and said GA please. She was happy with that. Twinges afterwards but am now in the garden with a glass of something nice relaxing. Thank you all for your experiences, I am very happy with my treatment.

@HysteroscopyWorries Well done, and I’m glad you got through it.

Well done for getting through it. I had one a few weeks ago with no pain relief and it was fine. Felt a lot like a smear. I've never given birth vaginally either (2 emcs). I think it's just luck. I currently have loads of fibroids and medical staff like to tell me when I complain of debilitating pain and bleeding, that most women don't even know they have them.
