Went to sexual health clinic last week to get iud removed due to just not liking it I have had a lot of pain while dtd and lots of on off spotting for first half of cycle.

nurse went to remove and couldn’t find the strings. She tried several times even once saying she was using a device to help her and said she just couldn’t find them. I had an iud expel once before after a C-section so slightly concerned this has happened again. She said that I will have to wait for an ultrasound to find out next steps which could take up to 3 months. Just wondering if anyone has experienced this. Nurse said she has been doing the job 8 years and this is only the second time she has not being able to remove a coil.

I had a laparoscopy earlier this year and was having an old coil removed and new one replaced at the same time. The consultant came and spoke to me after the operation and said he could not locate my coil, i was sent for an ultra scan and it was confirmed it was not there! I had no clue that it had expelled itself!

I have also expelled a coil without realising. Don't really understand how it happened but it is a thing.

Did she give you a pregnancy test?

I also lost one !!!! It must have just fallen out (I assume when I went to the toilet ??!!) I only found out as my heavy periods returned and I had a scan and there was no coil to be seen !

I had actually done a pregnancy test a few days before due to the fact my period was late (still having cycles) it ended up coming last week but again was very on and off for a few days. Hoping it’s expelled rather than moved upwards.

I had one removed under light sedation as the strings had disappeared but the coil was still there. All very straightforward.

My concern with that is I have a bleeding disorder so even a minor procedure is more risky for me.

This happened to me, the nurse couldn’t find it when I went for my smear test so I had to have an ultrasound scan.
A scan showed that it was still in place and so they have just left it, I will have to have it removed in about a year.
