Citalopram for PMT no longer helping and affecting libido

So I’m 39 and have been taking Citalopram 20mg for three years for PMT. I’ve always suffered with bad moods before my period. Irritability, irrational feelings, anger and basically I want to disappear. When my period comes I feel better. The Citalopram really helped at first but now it feels like it isn’t. It also has the horrible side effect of giving me no libido! I still have sex and when we get into it’s fine but I don’t get wet anymore really! (Sorry TMI)!

Has anyone else experienced this and has any advice?

No advice here but I’ve been on Citalopram for a year now and it’s changed my life (anxiety wise) but completely agree with libido being near enough 0, once I get into it, it’s fine, but to actually get into it takes a lot as I’m never in the mood! 🙄

I took citalopram for depression for years and stopped it in 2017 as I wanted to know what I was like off it. The biggest surprise was my libido coming back with avengence (id been widowed in 2012) and was still single.
All the SSRI drugs can affect libido but it might be worth trying one of the others to see if it helps your PMT but try with out it initially to see what you're like for a couple of months.

It’s common for antidepressants like Citalopram to lose effectiveness over time and affect libido. Speak to your doctor about adjusting your treatment or exploring alternative to help.
