Period pain

Just wondered what other women do for period pain. I’m having a bad period this week. Sometimes it’s ok but this week is v unpleasant and the usual ibuprofen, paracetamol and heat isn’t cutting it. Not particularly heavy. I’m 38. I feel like it’s got more painful in the last few years.

I’ve been on the pill in the past which helped but I’m reluctant to go back on it for various reasons.

i would go to your GP and ask for a referral to a gynaecologist. If finances permit I would see a gynaecologist as a private patient at the Nuffield or Spire for an initial consultation given the length of wait time in many areas.

Endometriosis is a common cause of ongoing and or severe pain re periods and it’s not something you should have to put up with. You need a diagnosis first and foremost. In the meantime consider keeping a pain and symptom diary if you do not already do this .

I’ve tried magnesium, light exercise, and herbal teas like ginger and chamomile for period pain, and they’ve helped quite a bit. I’ve also used a TENS machine at times, which can provide more focused pain relief.

Go to chemist and get either paracetamol with codeine or boots does ibuprofen with codeine that's higher strength than the paracetamol one. Totally understand how you feel. I'm 39 and mine got worse after having my little one at 36. Id never really had severe period pain before but bloody hell it's making up for it now
