Insomnia phases are leaving my sleep pattern completely out of sync

Just a rant: I can't sleep. I get so tired of going through these phases where insomnia hits hard. Slept for 13 hours the other night, then napped for 3 hours yesterday now I'm up again since 2 pm yesterday afternoon!

I can't seem to regulate my schedule, magnesium isn't working, listening to damned whale songs or rain doesn't work, electrolytes not working, walking 4-5 miles/day isn't working and I'm just frustrated.

The birds are pissing me off because they're singing like it's going to be a glorious day! 😡

i dislike performance sleep programmes ("sleep restriction") etc because it doesn't work for me. that said, obviously does work for many. So forgive me for asking:

Why can't you have regular try-to-sleep times when you are in bed and regular not-sleep times when you stay out of bed?

You threw off your sleep rhythm with long sleep and naps. Reset it: wake up at the same time daily, no naps, get morning sunlight, and stay up till night. It’ll feel rough for a few days, then it stabilizes.
