Hi all looking for some advise on what to eat during ovulation/periods to help bloating (I’m a vegetarian) I had a baby in 2021 via c section and from having her till I got pregnant with my second daughter in January 2025 my period were very irregular and did get bad bloating before period but not too bad now I had my daughter 6 months ago my periods are now on the dot every 30 days but I get so bloated to the point I look pregnant again around week before and during my period. It’s so uncomfortable and making me really self conscious. I want to try and help control the bloating with my diet.
I literally look ok for 2 weeks a month

Hi, sorry you’re dealing with that. Sounds awful.
Go on a low FODMAP diet and limit high FODMAP triggers when you feel bloated. I get gassy from beans, cauliflower, and onions; they make me uncomfortable. I also avoid salty foods and UPF. Some foods that sometimes help me are fermented foods for gut health, and I take probiotics. If possible, reduce salt and avoid fizzy drinks completely. Try ginger or peppermint tea and do gentle exercise.
I hope this helps.

If bloating is severe, see your GP.

You can control it by eating potassium and magnesium rich foods like bananas, spinach, yogurt, and nuts, while drinking more water and ginger tea to support digestion. Keep your meals light, especially before your period. Cut down salt, sugar, junk food, and fizzy drinks because they make water retention and gas worse. You won’t stay flat all month, but you can reduce how extreme it gets.
