Perimenopause and periods returning after a five month gap

I am in perimenopause with the main symptoms being that periods were becoming irregular for the past couple of years (occasional skipping of one month), and then I’ve just had the longest gap of 5 months.

Now a period has just started and I’m well cheesed off as I was hoping to get to 12 months and be done with them.

Has anyone else had such a long gap and did this go ok for years still?

I was close to 12 months when I had my last period, so we start all over again!
And I’ve heard of women who’ve had a period after the 12 months.

I had a five month gap, then a couple of months with 3 weeks apart, then a normal gap... right now it has been about 2-3 months. I started evorel sequi patches at some point during all this but it doesn't seem to trigger a regular bleed. Like you I just want to be done!

Yes, I had that last year. No periods for about 5/6 months and suddenly returned for a few months, now have currently disappeared again. I think this is common.

I had a 5 month gap twice, the last one was quite a bit heavier than I’d ever had, fortunately that was the last one. I got through quite a few pregnancy tests beforehand, although I knew it was doubtful that I could be pregnant, it’s hard to comprehend what’s going on.

Thanks all, I was so hoping that the almost lifelong painful periods were soon going to be over, but it seems not!

I went 6.5 months and then had one. I was not impressed

I beat you and went 11 months with no period,! Then I got one and had to start all over again too. I actually cried about it. Thankfully that was it and I then did my 12 months. That was nearly 9 years ago now

I had a 6 month gap, then they came back & I currently have them about a fortnight apart. I was furious, I really hoped I’d finished.

I went from Jan-July 2024 without one, was fuming in July. Then they were every 2 months or so until Nov 25 and I haven't had one since so I'm hopeful again......I was 54 in January.
