Mirena woes 3 weeks in-persist or remove?

I’ve had a mirena for 3 weeks (I’m 40’s, put in during polyp removal)

In 3 weeks I’ve gained 6lb, having been the same weight all my adult (non pregnant) life.

I have breast pain to the extent that I yelp when my children hug me.

I am also constipated and irritable

I’ve read that this could persist for 6 months?! Things weren’t awful before. Periods heavy but manageable.

Does anyone have experience of this-will it settle in a few weeks or will it really be months, at this point I feel out of control of my body and just want it out.

Was it for contraception or hormone issues?

I was told that you have to give it 6 months to settle down. I had mine inserted about 4.5 months ago. I had cramping for about a week and a half, constipation for about two months, bleeding/spotting for about 12 weeks with periods within that (!). No breast pain though. Periods are lighter than the flooding I was having before so I'm going to give it a few more months.

It was put in to control heavy periods, but I was offered it as part of another procedure.

Contraception yes, but could just go back to what I was doing before.

It’s the weight gain that’s alarming me most, I’ve cut right back on intake and the scales are increasing by a couple of lb a week.

I felt awful for a couple of weeks after having one fitted. I had it removed and replaced it with a copper coil; this had no side effects at all
