Bleeding

Since October I have had intermittent bleeding a week on, a week off. I saw my GP about it in January. I did all the tests she told me to; pregnancy, stds, blood but nothing came back positive. I had an appointment for a follow-up last week, but she wasn't able to tell me anything other that refer me for an ultrasound. I expressed a desire to go back on the contraceptive implant and she sent me the link to book that. But in the meantime I am still bleeding. Has anyone else been through this? What was it and how did you stop it? I have PCOS but this is not normal for me.

How old are you OP? What's your history with contraception? Assume you had a pap smear too?

ToadRage · 24/03/2026 15:24

I am 39, i was on the implant for 12 years but have been off any type of contraceptive since 2018. I had a smear just before Christmas and nothing was found.

It could all be hormonal. At 39, some women start getting perimenopause symptoms (can happen 10 years before menopause). But best to be safe and go for an ultrasound to rule out polyps and fibroids. Ultrasound appointments usually get scheduled quickly. Good luck with it.

I have erratic bleeding (spotting/bleeding about 25/30 days) and have adenomyosis.
im 45 and hoping that gynae will recommend a hysterectomy as im sick to bloody death of it. Plus the pelvic pain.

Similar situation here! Except I'm having a bit of a journey with it and doc got me to try the mini pill first (didn't work) then mirena (better but still issues). Sigh

I have the mirena and started these isssues a after about four years and they’ve continued after having it replaced at 5 years

UPDATE: I had an ultrasound and still told nothing to worry about. It's May and I'm still bleeding. I have an appointment on Thursday to get my implant which may resolve it but I have also been referred to gynaecology but as not urgent.
