Hi can anyone give any advice after having a uterine hysterectomy, with managing pain and recovery? Thanks

I had this due to suspected endometrial cancer. Are you having a total hysterectomy ? By what method ? Abdominal, keyhole?

Hi it’s keyhole I’m having. I have a uterine prolapse and no not a full hysterectomy @Printco

Everyone’s recovery is different but for me I was fortunate that it was fairly text book. You will need to take it easy and not overdo things particularly in terms of lifting ( esp following a prolapse). I was given the go ahead to drive at 9 days though waited 14, was back up to walking 10k steps a day by three weeks and was working (from home) pretty quickly too. It’s very individual though and listen to your body.

If they suggest ovary removal, do a lot of research and ask them whether it is really necessary. I say this as will cause surgical menopause and the effects of this are too often downplayed.

Hope it goes well for you. Xxx

I had a full hysterectomy (not keyhole) and I had completely underestimated how long recovery would take and how little I could do. But it was done decades ago and I imagine the same operation done now would be a quicker recovery. The pain wasn't unmanageable for me, so I imagine you'll be okay. Just follow the doctors' instructions on how much to rest and when to start lifting things, etc.

Have a look at the Hysterectomy Sisters UK page on Facebook. You will get tons of information and advice there. Best of luck with the op, and do what you're told by the medics! 😊
