Looking for hope… mirena IUD

looking for any shared experience and hopefully a bit of hope otherwise this thing may have to come out! 😂…. I had my mirena IUD inserted beginning of this year, since then I am bleeding for around 2 weeks at a time. I then have maybe a week of very light or no bleeding before it returns for another 2 weeks and the cycle continues… I know irregular bleeding is to be expected for a while but is this normal? When should I expect things to improve?!

TIA x

That sounds tough. I had a Mirena for the first time time 15 months ago and had a lot of light bleeding for the first six months. It does settle and they usually say by about 6 months.

I had heavy-ish periods before; they are much lighter now, but haven’t stopped and unfortunately have been a pattern of a few days of pain/spotting, 3-4 days of bleeding, then about 14 days of nothing before spotting again - as low as 21 day cycles.

I still prefer it over heavy bleeding and pregnancy risk! Good luck.

Side effects and risks of an IUS (intrauterine system) or hormonal coil

Find out about the side effects and risks of an IUS (intrauterine system) or hormonal coil. It is very safe and most side effects go away after a few months.
